Paws on Fraser Veterinary Hospital is a purpose-built, privately owned, general practice companion animal hospital in the vibrant neighborhood of Mount Pleasant/Kensington-Cedar Cottage.
We are a team of dedicated animal care professionals who are passionate about practicing progressive, compassionate, quality medicine. A supportive and collaborative work culture is very important to us.
Our practice is looking for a full or part time veterinary assistant to join our team, for a 1 year maternity leave coverage contract, with the potential for a long term extension. The ideal candidate will have previous experience in a veterinary clinic or animal care facility, with a strong comfort level in handling dogs and cats. If you are keen to learn and grow in this field, we are here to help support that growth.
Responsibilities:
- Assist veterinarians and technicians in the examination and treatment of companion animals
- Ensure patient comfort and safety during blood collection, surgical procedures, and diagnostic procedures like radiology
- Preparing surgical packs for autoclaving
- Setting up for surgery
- Processing requisitions for lab work, running in house blood analysis machines
- Care for hospitalized animals by walking dogs, feeding patients, and administering medications
- Maintain hospital cleanliness standards by cleaning cages, exam rooms, and other areas as needed
Qualifications and experience:
- Previous experience in a veterinary hospital
- Comfortable handling dogs and cats of all sizes and temperaments
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Willingness to learn and grow in the field of veterinary medicine
