Construction Technologist
Pay Rate: Up to $65-82/hour (based on experience)
Contract Length: 1 year
Location: Surrey, British Columbia (Full-Time Onsite with Site Visits)
Raise is currently hiring a Construction Technologist on behalf of our client. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced construction professional to support major utility infrastructure projects through planning, estimating, scheduling, and field coordination activities. The ideal candidate will have experience supporting Power Line Transmission and/or Power Line Distribution projects.
Note: The primary pay rate is based on the rate for an incorporated contractor who owns their own business. However, we will also consider applications from candidates interested in a T4 arrangement, where applicable.
Description
The Construction Technologist is responsible for supporting the planning, estimating, scheduling, procurement, and field coordination of construction projects. This role works closely with project managers, engineers, contractors, and field crews to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on schedule, and within budget. The successful candidate will possess strong technical knowledge of utility construction, estimating, project controls, and construction coordination.
Responsibilities

Prepare detailed construction cost estimates using engineering specifications, contract requirements, and productivity data.

Perform quantity take-offs and develop labour, material, equipment, and subcontract cost estimates.

Assess project risks and incorporate appropriate contingencies into estimates and schedules.

Prepare and maintain project schedules while coordinating construction activities and field resources.

Review engineering drawings, specifications, and material lists to support procurement activities.

Obtain technical information and pricing from suppliers and vendors.

Prepare procurement documentation for construction materials, equipment, and subcontract services.

Review contractor submissions and prepare bid evaluations and comparative cost analyses.

Monitor project progress, maintain project reporting, and recommend schedule or cost adjustments as required.

Maintain current equipment, labour, and material cost databases.

Provide technical support and coordination to construction crews, project teams, contractors, and other stakeholders.

Assist with preparing contracts, tender documents, requisitions, and construction documentation.

Participate in construction site visits and field coordination activities throughout British Columbia.

Prepare technical reports, project documentation, graphs, schedules, and project status updates.

Perform other related duties in support of construction project delivery.

Education & Skills
-
Diploma of Technology from a recognized institute of technology or a degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, Forestry, Architecture, Quantity Surveying, Business Administration, or a related discipline.

Related trade qualifications such as Electrician, Power Line Technician, Millwright, Winder, or General Trades are also considered.

Minimum 5 years of construction and/or project management experience in either field or office environments.

Strong knowledge of construction estimating, scheduling, project coordination, and procurement.

Experience supporting utility, transmission, distribution, or industrial construction projects.

Working knowledge of construction standards, engineering drawings, specifications, and applicable codes.

Strong understanding of project management principles.

Excellent analytical, organizational, negotiation, and communication skills.

Proficiency with construction estimating, scheduling, project management, and Microsoft Office software.

Basic drafting and design capabilities.

Valid Class 5 Driver's License with access to a personal vehicle for site visits.
Preferred Skills & Experience

Experience supporting Power Line Transmission and/or Power Line Distribution projects.

Experience coordinating construction field activities on utility infrastructure projects.

Knowledge of generation, substations, transmission, and distribution facilities.

Experience providing technical direction to construction trades and contractors.
Work Assignment Requirements

Full-time onsite position based in the Surrey office during the first six months.

Potential hybrid work arrangement (up to two work-from-home days per week) after six months.

Regular travel throughout British Columbia for construction site visits.

Must possess a valid Class 5 Driver's License and maintain a personal vehicle for travel.

Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
