Main Responsibilities:
1. Assessment: The Activity Aide will assess the recreation, social, emotional and spiritual needs of both the newly admitted residents and existing residents on an ongoing basis to ensure their needs are met. The initial assessment may be in partnership with other individuals such as families, the staff, administrator, clergy, friends etc.
2. New Admissions: Will be matched with a buddy if requested.
3. Programs Design: Programs will be designed and assessed to ensure that there is a fit with the needs of the residents. The Recreation Aide will consult others such as the volunteers, residents, staff, families etc. to ensure the fit and enjoyment of each program.
4. Volunteer Management: The Recreation Aide will recruit, interview, select and manage all aspects of a volunteers job to ensure appropriateness. Records will be kept of all volunteers and an ongoing list will be kept current in the nurse’s office of which programs are lead by volunteers with a contact number of those individuals in case of problems. This includes the clergy for Sunday services.
5. Documentation: The Recreation Aide will keep appropriate documentation with regarding to program offerings, volunteer files, & contacts.6. Purchases: The Recreation Aide will make appropriate purchases following the guidelines as presented by the company. Farewells, transfers, and funeral floral arrangements will be coordinated by the Recreation Aide.

d. Communication skills: As an on-site liaison and community liaison, the Recreation Aide has a critical position in public relations.
e. Continued Education: Willingness to participate in continued education appropriate to the job and willingness to seek out those opportunities.
Staff Reporting to the Recreation Aide: none however the volunteers do report to the Recreation Aide

Off-Site Responsibilities: Purchases
Working Hours Parameters: Hourly paid position. Works generally Mon-Fri: 10:00 a.m. To 3:30 p.m. Has the latitude (with consent from Administrator) to work Overtime Hours. Unpaid ½ hour lunch break and 1-paid 15 minute break.
Issues to be consulted with Administrator:
- Incidents/Accidents
- Program Changes, concerns
- Budget concerns, expenses, need for petty cash
- Staffing concerns (re: special events etc.)
- Health and Safety concerns
Unusual Occurrences Affecting the usual flow of Recreation Aide work:
- Outbreak of illness
- Incidents/accidents
- Absence of program leaders (volunteers, staff etc.)
- Power outage/major systems malfunction
- Inclement weather affecting outdoor activity
- Emergency situations (fire or evacuation).
