Who we are:
Solstice Fitness Club is a private training facility in downtown Guelph specializing in semi-private and small group personal training. Our focus is longevity, pain-free movement, and sustainable results. We help busy professionals and aging adults get strong and stay capable for decades, not just for summer. Our average client ranges between 45-70 years old and is not an avid gym goer.
We are deliberately not a big box gym. Group training sessions are capped at 6 clients, coaching is genuinely personal, and our members stay for years because of the relationships they build here. We're growing, and we're looking for an experienced coach who wants to do the best work of their career in an environment built for it.
You will not be required to perform marketing or sales. You will not be required to make phone calls or do sales consults.
Who we're looking for:
This role is for a coach who has already put in the reps. You've spent years on the floor, you've coached hundreds of different bodies, and you no longer need a script to handle a client with a cranky shoulder, a new hip replacement, or a fear of squatting. You can take a written program and adapt it in real time, intelligently, confidently, and without breaking the flow of a session.
Just as important: you understand that great coaching is a relationship. We're not hiring "form robots." We're hiring someone who can connect with a 55-year-old executive on Monday morning and a nervous first-timer on Tuesday night, and make both feel like this is their gym.
What you'll do
- Coach our small group personal training sessions (max 6 clients) using programming written by our head coach, applying your own judgment to modify and progress exercises for individual restrictions, injuries, and ability levels.
- Deliver a consistently high standard of coaching, sessions that start on time, run with energy and intention, and leave clients feeling better than when they arrived.
- Build genuine, long-term relationships with members and contribute to a community culture that drives our retention.
- Contribute your expertise beyond the floor: we welcome input on programming, assessments, and client progression from all of our coaches.
- Handle the standard realities of a small facility, session setup and teardown, opening or closing when you're first in or last out, and keeping the space sharp.
What makes this role different
- Small caseloads, real coaching. Six clients maximum per session means you actually coach, not crowd-manage.
- Room to grow. We're an expanding business with plans for additional coaching, leadership, and specialty roles. Strong coaches here have room for career growth.
- Professional environment. You'll work alongside a head coach with a sports science background who trains everyone from everyday adults to professional athletes and who invests in developing the coaches on the team.
- A clear methodology. Our programming and assessment systems are structured around movement quality and longevity, so you're coaching within a framework, not improvising.
- No sales quotas, no chasing leads, no building your own client book. Marketing and client acquisition are handled by the business, so your entire focus is coaching.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of hands-on coaching experience in personal training, small group training, or strength & conditioning (5+ years preferred).
- Nationally recognized personal training or strength & conditioning certification (CSEP, CSCS, NSCA, ACE, canfitpro, or equivalent).
- Valid CPR/AED certification.
- A degree in kinesiology, exercise science, or a related health field is a strong asset.
- Demonstrated ability to modify and regress/progress exercises on the fly for injuries, limitations, and varying ability levels.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills the ability to motivate, teach, and support clients through the hard parts of a fitness journey.
- Experience coaching older adults, post-rehab populations, or busy professionals is a significant asset.
