The Sea Lions Swim Club is an Age-Group Development team with a rich history spanning over 60 years, making it one of the oldest swim teams in Alberta. With a current membership of approximately 90 swimmers, this job description outlines the key responsibilities of the Part-Time Sea Lions Group Assistant Coach. This coach will inspire and motivate swimmers, while focusing on the holistic development of the athletes with an emphasis on long-term enjoyment, engagement, and skill development. The coach is also expected to promote and support the Appropriate Athlete Development Model and accommodate multisport athletes involved in multiple activities throughout the season.
The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in the delivery of comprehensive swim training programs, developed by the Lead Group Coach, and approved by the Head Coach. Within the coaching team, this individual must be able to work with all other coaches in a positive manner to help deliver a program that can bring out the best in every swimmer.
Key Responsibilities:
· The Assistant Group Coach will report to the Head Coach on all responsibilities and assigned tasks and work collaboratively with the Lead Group Coach and all other Sea Lions Coaches.
· Lead assigned training groups and take responsibility for athlete attendance, progression, communication, and training environment within those groups.
· Communicate professionally and positively with parents regarding swimmer development, attendance, expectations, and program objectives.
· Support the development and mentorship of junior coaches and contribute positively to the overall coaching team environment.
· Work collaboratively with the Lead Group Coach to plan and deliver high-quality, athlete-centered training sessions.
· Implement the technical, tactical, and developmental objectives established by the Head Coach and Lead Coach.
· Foster a positive, inclusive, and motivating training environment that reflects the club's values and culture.
· Promote long-term athlete development, technical experience, sportsmanship, and lifelong participation in swimming.
· Build positive relationships with swimmers while encouraging accountability, resilience, teamwork, and strong work ethic.
· Provide individualized technical feedback and instruction to help athletes progress toward their goals.
· Ensure swimmer safety by maintaining active supervision and following all club, facility, and governing body safety policies.
· Attend swim meets (local and travel) when required
· Engage in planning and organizing special events such as banquets, team builders, season-kickoff and season wrap-up events.
· Session attendance tracking, meet entry support, training plan feedback, equipment management, communication with families.
Qualifications & Skills Required:
· Minimum 2 years competitive or developmental coaching experience.
· NCCP Swimming 101 Certified.
· Competitive swimming background and a familiarity with Swimming Canada Programs.
· WHMIS and First Aid with advanced CPR certification. (*training is provided by club).
· Swim Instructor and/or National Lifeguard Certification are both assets.
· Excellent team player, mentor, creative thinker, flexible, and must focus on engagement and fun.
· Clear Vulnerable Sector Search and Criminal Record Check and Eligible to work in Canada.
