Job title: Community Training Specialist

Job purpose:
The purpose of the Community Training Specialist role is to develop SmartICE training programs to ensure they are high quality and consistent by reviewing, creating, and improving training materials and facilitation practices. The role ensures training is accurate, accessible, culturally grounded, and reflective of current SmartICE technology and procedures, while supporting trainers and communities through mentorship, evaluation, and ongoing program development.
Duties and responsibilities
- Conduct a full review of the current community training materials, manuals, and assets.
- Work with Community Operations and Engineering team to ensure all training reflects current
SmartICE technology and procedures
- Develop a standardized curriculum for the train-the trainer program with required learning outcomes.
- Develop and maintain the formal Train-the-Trainer Framework to match the curriculum
- Ensure all materials are accessible, teachable, and rooted in Indigenous ways of knowing and learning
- Develop and document trainer best practices
- Design and update community training resources as technology evolves
- Create trainer checklists, evaluation checkpoints, and reporting tools
- Travel to communities to observe training delivery and provide feedback
- Facilitate ongoing evaluation and continuous improvement of training programs through trainer, Operations, and Engineering feedback
- Provide coaching and facilitation support to trainers and Operations Leads using adult learning and current teaching best practices
- Support the development of participant testing, grading, and completion recognition systems
- Support the standardization of onboarding and training delivery processes across communities and regions
- Identify and recommend professional development opportunities for trainers and Operations Leads
- Maintain the training curriculum on our Learning Management System
- Collaborate with the Manager of Community Operations to plan the training sessions for the annual Operations Fall Retreat
Key Objectives & Outcomes
- Review current Operator training within the first 30 days.
- Gather post-ice season feedback from Engineering Team and Ops Team, review and make recommendations within 60 days.
- Conduct a gap analysis by reviewing the current Operator training program and identify gaps and inconsistencies within 90 days.
- Develop and implement updated training materials addressing all identified gaps within 60 days post completion of the gap analysis.
- Receive training on technology (SB/SQ) within 30 days.
- Work with the Engineering team to verify the accuracy of technological information in the training within 60 days.
- Deliver training on the updated curriculum prior to the ice season, and annually after that.
- Conduct post-ice season review yearly, to gather feedback and implement changes, to be completed 1 month prior to the next ice season.
Skills, Competencies & Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in: secondary education, Adult Learning & Teaching certificate, Instructional Design, or equivalent work experience.
- Experience in evaluating the efficacy of training programs
- Experience designing and delivering training programs
- Experience working with educating young adults, or adults.
- Experience in auditing and recommending improvements for facilitators.
- Experience researching and developing curriculum
- Experience developing and using blended learning solutions
- Experience working with Indigenous communities
- Ability to work in a team and one on one with trainers
- Collaborative and relationship-focused
- Proven organizational and communication skills
Working Environment
This role is a hybrid remote including both work from home and some work from the office as required. Duty travel is also required for this role.
Role Relationships
This role will interact with all employees of SmartICE, external stakeholders, external contacts as required.
Term
This position is indefinite, subject to funding.
Salary
The annual starting salary for this position is 65,000-75,000
