Our client, a leading manufacturing company, is rapidly expanding and is seeking experienced CNC Machinist to join their team.
The CNC Machinist is responsible for setting up and operating precision steel manufacturing equipment, including CNC lathes, milling machines, drilling machines, grinders, and multi-axis machining centers to manufacture high-quality custom mold components. This role involves machining precision parts through roughing and finishing operations while maintaining tight tolerances and exceptional quality standards.
The successful candidate will independently perform machine setup, first-piece inspection and validation, and make program adjustments by navigating CNC controls to optimize feeds, speeds, cycle times, and overall machining efficiency. Working closely with Engineering and Production Scheduling, the CNC Machinist will provide technical expertise and feedback on new part process planning, while also contributing to continuous process development and improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities:
- Set up and operate precision steel manufacturing equipment, including CNC lathes, milling machines, drilling machines, grinders, and multi-axis machining centers to manufacture custom mold components.
- Develop, refine, and improve manufacturing processes and procedures while supporting Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, control plans, and process documentation to ensure components meet quality and dimensional requirements.
- Create, edit, optimize, and troubleshoot CNC programs, machine controllers (Siemens, Okuma, Fanuc), cutting parameters, tooling, and machining processes.
- Inspect finished parts using precision measuring equipment and CMMs, ensuring compliance with specifications and documenting production and quality data.
- Operate and troubleshoot automated manufacturing equipment, including robotic systems, peripheral devices, and other production automation technologies.
- Monitor machine performance, track production metrics, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions to improve quality, efficiency, and productivity.
- Work closely with Engineering, Quality, and Production teams to support new product introductions, process development, tooling improvements, and problem resolution.
- Mentor and train technicians, share technical knowledge, and promote collaboration to improve team performance and manufacturing capability.
- Follow Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) standards while meeting production targets, maintaining effective communication, and supporting a safe, high-performance manufacturing environment.
Qualifications:
- College diploma or completion of certified apprenticeship program an asset
- 6 years + of CNC Machining experience required
- Previous work experience using hand tools and measuring tools
- Inspection experience; CMM operation an asset
- Previous work experience with: Turning, Milling, Grinding machining centres
- Demonstrated ability to consistently maintain high productivity levels
- Experience with reading and understanding GD&T symbols for parts made, and manufacturing any part designed in manufacturing
- Ability to interpret and read complex CAD drawings and navigate through CAD models to obtain necessary information and detect errors
- Capable of solving math and geometry problems presented at machines
- Strong team player with excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Solid understanding of proper Health and Safety workplace practices
- Ability to lead and provide guidance to other team members
- Experience utilizing Microsoft applications
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 20lbs independently
- Must be able to work rotating shift schedules
