JOB SUMMARY
The Recovery Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and delivering culturally responsive prevention, intervention, education, and recovery services through the Stoney Trail Wellness Centre (STWC) in Eden Valley. Reporting to the Manager of Community Wellness, this position supports individuals, families, and community members affected by substance use, mental health concerns, trauma, and grief by providing case management, advocacy, referrals, and recovery-focused programming.
The Recovery Coordinator plays a key role in promoting holistic wellness, strengthening community resilience, reducing barriers to care, and supporting recovery journeys through culturally grounded services, community partnerships, and traditional healing approaches. This position contributes to the overall health and well-being of the community by fostering safe, respectful, and supportive environments that encourage healing, personal growth, and long-term wellness.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Recovery Coordinator supports the effective delivery of addiction, mental health, prevention, intervention, and recovery services through the Stoney Trail Wellness Centre (STWC). This position is responsible for coordinating the National Native Alcohol and Drug Abuse Program (NNADAP) and other community wellness initiatives that promote healing, resilience, and healthy lifestyles.
The Recovery Coordinator works closely with individuals, families, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, community members, and external service providers to provide culturally responsive case management, referrals, advocacy, education, and recovery support services. The role requires a high level of professionalism, confidentiality, cultural awareness, and strong interpersonal skills when working with community members experiencing substance use challenges, mental health concerns, trauma, grief, and other wellness-related issues.
The Recovery Coordinator is responsible for maintaining accurate client records, preparing program reports, supporting community outreach and prevention activities, coordinating access to treatment and recovery resources, and promoting culturally grounded approaches to healing and wellness. The position plays a key role in strengthening community wellness by integrating Stoney Nakoda values, traditions, teachings, and holistic approaches into all aspects of service delivery.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Case Management & Client Support
· Conduct client intake, screening, assessment, and case management services.
· Develop individualized wellness and recovery plans based on client needs and goals.
· Provide advocacy, referrals, follow-up support, and service coordination.
· Support individuals and families affected by substance use, mental health concerns, trauma, grief, and other wellness-related challenges.
· Maintain appropriate client documentation, case notes, and confidential records.
Recovery & Wellness Programming
· Coordinate and administer the National Native Alcohol and Drug Abuse Program (NNADAP).
· Develop, implement, and evaluate prevention, intervention, education, and recovery programs.
· Facilitate individual and group sessions focused on wellness, recovery, life skills, healthy coping strategies, and relapse prevention.
· Promote healthy lifestyles through culturally responsive and community-based programming.
· Coordinate wellness workshops, awareness campaigns, and outreach initiatives.
Treatment & Community Resource Coordination
· Coordinate access to treatment centres, detoxification services, counselling supports, cultural resources, and community programs.
· Collaborate with healthcare providers, treatment facilities, community agencies, and support organizations.
· Assist clients in navigating services and reducing barriers to care.
· Support reintegration planning and ongoing recovery supports following treatment.
Crisis Intervention & Community Support
· Provide crisis intervention and support during emergencies, critical incidents, and community crises.
· Respond appropriately to urgent situations while maintaining professional boundaries and confidentiality.
· Assist in developing safety plans and connecting clients with appropriate emergency supports and services.
Community Engagement & Cultural Integration
· Collaborate with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, community members, and partner organizations to enhance service delivery.
· Support the integration of Stoney Nakoda culture, language, teachings, and traditional healing practices within programs and services.
· Participate in community events, wellness initiatives, and cultural activities.
· Promote awareness of available wellness, recovery, and support services within the community.
Reporting & Administrative Responsibilities
· Maintain accurate client files, program statistics, and service records.
· Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports as required.
· Monitor program outcomes and assist with evaluation activities.
· Ensure compliance with funding requirements, policies, procedures, and reporting obligations.
· Maintain confidentiality and secure handling of all clients and program information.
· Participate in staff meetings, training opportunities, and professional development activities.
Other Duties
· Perform additional duties related to community wellness, recovery services, and program delivery as assigned by the Manager of Community Wellness.
EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND QUALIFICATIONS:
· Degree, Diploma, or Certificate in Social Work, Human Services, Addictions Counselling, Psychology, Indigenous Studies, or a related field.
· Experience working in addictions, mental health, community wellness, or Indigenous health services.
· Knowledge of trauma-informed practice, harm reduction, recovery-oriented care, and crisis intervention.
· Understanding of the impacts of Residential Schools, intergenerational trauma, substance use, and mental health challenges within Indigenous communities.
· Strong case management, advocacy, facilitation, communication, and relationship-building skills.
· Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.
· Experience facilitating individual and group programming is considered an asset.
· Knowledge of Stoney Nakoda culture, traditions, language, and community resources is considered an asset.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic documentation systems.
· Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence and reliable transportation.
· Strong organizational, administrative, and reporting skills.
· Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
· Training in suicide intervention, crisis response, motivational interviewing, or trauma-informed care is considered an asset.
· Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.
EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:

· Must maintain strict confidentiality and handle sensitive client information appropriately.
· Must comply with all Bearspaw First Nation policies and procedures.
· Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
· Must be willing to travel as required for client support, training, community events, and program delivery.
WORKING CONDITIONS
· Hours per Shift: 7 hours
· Shift Pattern: Full Time
· Length in Shift in Weeks: 35 hour per week
· Primarily office-based with regular interaction with clients, families, Elders, and community members.
· Occasional evening, weekend, and community-based work may be required.
· Travel may be required to attend meetings, training sessions, treatment facilities, and community events.
