Job Summary
Dom Amodeo Produce is seeking an experienced, hands-on Receiving Manager to oversee our inbound receiving operations and ensure fresh produce is received accurately, efficiently, and according to company quality, inventory, food safety, and safety standards.
The successful candidate will supervise receiving staff, inspect incoming produce, verify Bills of Lading and receiving documentation, resolve shipment discrepancies, maintain inventory accuracy, and ensure product is properly handled, labelled, stored, and rotated.
This position requires direct experience receiving and quality-inspecting fresh produce. Candidates with only general warehouse, retail, e-commerce, or non-food warehouse experience will not be considered.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily receiving operations and coordinate inbound deliveries.
- Receive and inspect fresh produce for quantity, quality, condition, maturity, freshness, damage, defects, spoilage, and temperature.
- Verify shipments against Bills of Lading (BOLs), purchase orders, packing slips, and manifests.
- Identify, document, and resolve shortages, overages, damages, substitutions, incorrect products, and other discrepancies.
- Verify and record lot numbers and maintain product traceability.
- Accurately enter receiving and inventory information into computerized inventory/WMS/ERP systems.
- Ensure proper FIFO/FEFO rotation, product handling, staging, and storage.
- Determine when produce should be accepted, rejected, held, downgraded, or escalated due to quality concerns.
- Supervise, train, and direct receiving staff.
- Operate an electric pallet jack and assist with unloading and staging product.
- Maintain an organized, clean, and safe receiving area.
- Assist with inventory counts, cycle counts, and discrepancy investigations.
- Ensure compliance with food safety, workplace safety, and company procedures.
- Communicate receiving, quality, and inventory issues to purchasing, sales, management, and suppliers as required.
QualificationsRequired
- Minimum 3 years of warehouse receiving experience, preferably in fresh produce or food distribution.
- Minimum 2 years of hands-on fresh produce receiving and QC experience.
- Previous experience supervising or leading warehouse/receiving employees.
- Strong knowledge of fresh fruits and vegetables, produce quality, defects, maturity, freshness, and handling requirements.
- Strong understanding of BOLs, purchase orders, packing slips, and receiving documentation.
- Experience reconciling physical shipments against documentation.
- Experience with lot codes, traceability, and FIFO/FEFO.
- Strong computer skills and experience using WMS, ERP, inventory, or receiving systems.
- Hands-on experience operating an electric pallet jack.
- Valid certification/license for applicable powered material-handling equipment.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred
- Experience in a fresh produce distribution centre, produce terminal, grocery distribution centre, or food warehouse.
- Experience receiving produce from U.S. and Canadian suppliers.
- Knowledge of seasonal produce and commodity characteristics.
- Experience handling produce quality claims and supplier discrepancies.
- Experience with inventory adjustments and cycle counts.
- Strong Computer/Inventory Software skills.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs repeatedly.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and perform repetitive tasks.
- Ability to work in refrigerated and warehouse environments.
- Ability to safely operate an electric pallet jack and other powered equipment.
- Ability to perform hands-on receiving and produce inspection duties.
Pay: $40,000.00-$80,000.00 per year
