ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY
This position reports to the Supervisor, Distribution Construction. This position will be responsible for the safe construction, commissioning, repair and maintenance of overhead and underground electrical distribution systems of Oshawa Power's electrical distribution system.
Hourly Rate: $36.52- $53.72 per our Collective Agreement with IBEW 636

AS THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT, YOU WILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO BE INVOLVED WITH:
- Construct, maintain and perform planned and emergency repairs on the company's 120V to 44,000V overhead and underground electrical distribution systems while working in both its energized and unenergized states;
- Install poles, conductors, transformers, switching devices, elbows, terminations, splices, etc. using associated equipment as per company policy and procedures and / or industry safe work practice guidelines;
- Operate large vehicles and equipment required from set-up to completion of the work including documentation related to circle checks and traffic control as per company policies and procedures;
- Liaise with internal departments to plan major switching operations and construction projects, keeping accurate records of time spent, equipment and material used;
- Maintain concise and accurate digital and paper records as required;
- Communicate with customers to provide service, ensure satisfaction, and safeguard public safety;
- Co-ordinate assigned projects with internal departments as well as external partners and contractors on an as needed basis;
- Perform regular stand-by duty and emergency call-outs with the ability to reach the Company's premises within twenty minutes;
- Work safely at all times in following the company's safety policies and procedures and in compliance with the Highway Traffic Act, Occupational Health & Safety Act, WHMIS, applicable legislation, regulations, and statutes;
- Train apprentices, contractors, and oneself in correct and new work techniques and the safe operation of equipment;
- Other duties as assigned.
WHAT YOU HAVE TO OFFER:
Education:
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent;
- Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD) Certificate of Qualification (C of Q) as a Powerline Technician (certified lines trade journeyperson);
- Red Seal Endorsement is required.
Experience:
- Minimum five (5) years of experience as a Journeyperson Powerline Technician.
Required Competencies
- Possess a valid DZ license with a clean abstract;
- Strong knowledge of electrical fundamentals and electrical utility infrastructure;
- Strong knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in electrical distribution system construction, inspection, maintenance, operation, and testing;
- Ability to operate a bucket truck/material handler, and radial boom derrick;
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, maps, drawings, and procedure manuals;
- Must attend and re-certify as required all relevant operational and safety courses;
- Team player with a positive can-do attitude with high initiative;
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with and across various organizational teams;
- Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving and trouble-shooting skills with the ability to maintain professional and effective working relationships;
- Demonstrated excellent verbal, listening, and written communication skills;
- Proficient in basic computer skills;
- Excellent working knowledge of all current trade procedures, tools and equipment;
- Must be in good health, and physically fit for year-round outdoor line work, in all elements, in confined spaces and at various heights. Will be required to pass a medical examination;
- Knowledgeable and competent with IHSA's Safety Rules, Occupational Health & Safety Act, Ontario Reg. 22/04 Electrical Distribution Safety, OTM Book 7 Temporary Conditions, Utility Work Protection Code, WHMIS, CPR, First Aid and all other applicable related legislation;
- Strong commitment to safety, customer service, teamwork, respect in the workplace and continued improvement of processes and procedures.
