Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented CAD Technologist / Drafting Technologist to support a range of infrastructure and utility drafting projects. This role focuses on producing high-quality drawings using Plant3D, AutoCAD, Civil 3D and or Microstation, working with geospatial data, and supporting multi-disciplinary coordination.
This position is best suited for someone who can maintain focus for extended periods, takes pride in precision, and thrives in a structured, production-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and revise drawings using AutoCAD, Plant3D, Civil3D, and / or Microstation
- Work with KMZ, SHP (shape files), and other GIS data formats
- Interpret and apply UTM coordinates and coordinate systems
- Assist with drafting for utility and infrastructure projects
- Perform quality control checks to ensure accuracy and consistency
- Coordinate with internal team members to meet project deadlines
- Manage drawing files, references, and version control
Qualifications
- Diploma or certificate in Drafting, Engineering Technology, or related field (NAIT, SAIT, or equivalent)
- 1–5+ years of relevant drafting experience preferred
- Proficiency in AutoCAD; experience with Civil 3D or Microstation is a strong asset
- Working knowledge of coordinate systems (UTM) and geospatial data
- Strong attention to detail and ability to stay focused on repetitive tasks
- Ability to follow standards and maintain consistency across deliverables
Assets & Preferred Experience
- Strong preference for candidates with MicroStation (Bentley platform) experience or working knowledge
- Strong preference for candidates who are familiar with gas piping design and as-built experience
- Exposure to utility, municipal, or infrastructure projects
- Experience working with GIS datasets and mapping workflows
- Ability to adapt quickly to new software and client standards
Exposure to MicroStation is highly valued; candidates without direct experience should demonstrate the ability to quickly learn new platforms and workflows.
