Job Summary
Summit Laser & Manufacturing Ltd. is seeking a highly autonomous and detail-oriented Laser Operator to join our production team. Because we operate without a traditional shop manager, we are looking for a self-managed professional who can prioritize their own workload based on customer due dates to ensure on-time delivery. You will set up, operate, and maintain our Mitsubishi laser cutting systems, handle dual-unit blueprints, safely manage material handling with forklifts and cranes, and coordinate shipping and receiving.

- Material Handling: Operate an overhead crane to load raw metal sheets safely onto the laser bed.
- Forklift Operation: Drive a forklift to move raw materials from storage to the laser workstation.
- Shipping & Receiving: Load completed customer jobs onto delivery vehicles and unload incoming raw materials from supplier trucks.
- Software & Nesting: Utilize SigmaNEST software to load programs and manage nests (training can be provided).
- Quality Control: Inspect first-off and production parts using calipers and tape measures to ensure blueprint compliance.
- Maintenance: Perform daily and weekly preventative maintenance on laser systems, including lens cleaning and nozzle changes.
Qualifications and Skills
- Autonomy & Time Management: Proven ability to work independently, self-manage tasks, and make effective scheduling decisions without direct supervision.
- Experience: Minimum 2+ years of experience operating CNC laser cutting machines (direct experience with Mitsubishi lasers is highly preferred).
- Material Handling: Experience operating overhead cranes and forklifts. Training/licensing on the forklift can be completed in-house.
- Unit Conversion: Proficient in reading fabrication drawings and blueprints in both imperial (inches) and metric (millimetres) units of measure.
- Measurement Tools: Proficient using calipers and tape measures for part verification.
- Software Skills: Experience with SigmaNEST nesting software is a strong asset but not required.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
