Overview
Seeking a compassionate and dedicated Disability Support Worker to provide assistance and companionship to an active teen living with ASD, in the family home, community, and other settings as needed (Bathurst & Hwy 7 area). In this role, you will support the client's daily activities, promote independence, and foster a positive environment that enhances their quality of life.
The ideal candidate has several years of experience in a supervisory, management, or training role supporting clients with autism and challenging or aggressive behaviours, with a client-centred approach. Strong interpersonal skills, patience, sound judgment, and a genuine desire to make a meaningful difference are essential.
This position is not suitable for candidates whose experience is limited to caring for seniors. Local applicants only. Must have a valid driver's licence, insurance, and own vehicle.
Responsibilities
- Assist the client with daily living activities, including personal care and household tasks
- Support the client in community activities, outings, and social engagements
- Monitor and document the client's progress, needs, and any changes in condition
- Implement individualized care plans developed in collaboration with healthcare professionals
- Promote independence by encouraging the client to complete tasks within their ability
- Maintain a safe and clean environment for the client at all times
- Communicate effectively with the client, family, and team members to ensure coordinated care
- Provide emotional support and companionship to foster well-being and confidence
Skills & Qualifications
- Prior experience working with teens or young adults with disabilities in a supervisory, management, or training role, OR experience in a complex special needs classroom
- Experience in a school board, group home, day treatment centre, therapy centre, or equivalent setting
- Compassionate nature with excellent interpersonal and leadership skills
- Patience, empathy, and the ability to build trusting relationships
- Strong communication skills for effective interaction with the client and team members
- Ability to follow care plans accurately and adapt to changing needs
- Solid understanding of health and safety procedures related to disability support
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) or equivalent training
- Valid driver's licence, insurance, and own vehicle for transportation to community outings
- Ability to swim, bike, use a trampoline, and take long walks
- Vulnerable Sector Clearance

Pay: $35.00 per hour
