Position Overview
Our client is seeking an experienced Tax Manager to join their growing tax practice. This role is ideal for someone currently working as a Tax Manager in a public accounting firm who enjoys a combination of tax compliance, tax planning, and advisory work.
The successful candidate will lead corporate and personal tax engagements while working closely with partners on complex tax planning projects, including corporate reorganizations and Section 85/86 transactions. Approximately 30% to 50% of the role will involve specialty tax planning and advisory work, with the remainder focused on corporate and personal tax compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and review corporate and personal income tax returns.
- Lead corporate reorganizations and restructuring engagements.
- Prepare and review Section 85 and Section 86 elections.
- Provide corporate and personal tax planning for owner-managed businesses and high-net-worth individuals.
- Conduct tax research and provide technical tax advice.
- Review financial statements and working paper files prepared by staff.
- Manage multiple client engagements while ensuring deadlines are met.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships by providing proactive tax advice.
- Mentor, coach, and review the work of Senior Accountants and junior staff.
- Work closely with partners on complex tax projects and special engagements.
- Identify tax-saving opportunities and provide strategic recommendations to clients.
- Ensure compliance with current Canadian tax legislation and professional standards.
Qualifications
- CPA designation
- Current or recent experience as a Tax Manager within a Canadian public accounting firm.
- Strong experience preparing and reviewing corporate and personal tax returns.
- Extensive experience with corporate reorganizations and restructuring.
- Strong knowledge of Section 85 and Section 86 transactions.
- Experience providing corporate and personal tax planning.
- Strong technical knowledge of Canadian income tax legislation.
- Experience managing client relationships and leading tax engagements.
- Excellent leadership, communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Experience mentoring and developing junior staff.
