The Toronto Grace Health Centre (TGHC) provides specialized care and services to those individuals who require Complex Continuing Care, Post-Acute Care Rehabilitation, Palliative Care, Wound Care, Respiratory Therapy, and Transitional & Remote Care. The care and services provided at TGHC help facilitate the patient flow through the health care system and ensures recovery to those individuals who may return to their homes or to Long Term Care (LTC) facilities in their communities. TGHC operates in 2 sites – the Main site (Church& Bloor St), Harbour Lights and a Specialized Care Centre (Victoria Park & McNicoll).

POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Controller, the Senior Financial Analyst, Controllership assists to closely monitoring the financial health across the Toronto Grace Healthcare Network. The Senior Financial Analyst will play a key role in providing evidence based-analysis for the informed and effective decision-making process. KEY RESPONSIBILTIES:
Financial Reporting and Analysis:
- Responsible for preparing monthly, quarterly, annual and multi-year financial statements
- Responsible for financial variations to expectations, investigate gaps and provide explanations
- Assisting in the development of briefing notes and reports for presentations to senior management, standing committees, and to the Ministry
- Providing financial support and expertise in evaluating various business initiatives and reinvestment strategies
- Responsible for assessing Ministry funding agreements, setting up accounting treatment and reporting against defined targets
- Financial Modeling including sensitivity analysis, contribution margin, scenario analysis, costing, rate/volume analysis, budget modeling, and any other financial analysis required by senior management
- Prepare and review various account reconciliations
- Review and present monthly financial results with management and discuss variances and action plans for mitigation
- Acts as a business partner to key operational departments that influence change and deliver solutions to enhance operational results
- Prepare financial projections
- Review payroll information in the general ledger to ensure proper calculations and cost allocations
- Provide coaching and mentoring to financial analysts
- Ad-hoc projects and other assignments as required
Financial Accounting:
- Prepare month end journal entries and assist in account reconciliations
- Investigates variances and provides explanations
- Review journal entries for proper allocation of budgets
- Prepare and remit sales tax to CRA on a monthly basis
- Liaise directly with external auditors and prepare necessary lead sheets for the year-end audit
- Support the year-end audit process with external auditors
- Assist in creating the external audit financial statements with working papers and other audit requests
- Prepare annual T3010 return
Treasury:
- Prepare (daily) cashflow projections to ensure appropriate funds for payroll, vendor and other payments.
- Liaise with Ministry funding department(s) for cashflow/reconciliations accordingly
Budget:
- Meet with stakeholders to validate new assumptions for the department's budget
- Schedule and attend meetings to finalize budgets for variance departments
Capital Assets:
- Create and update monthly list of capital assets and ensure proper depreciation is calculated appropriately
- Responsible for ensuring that corresponding deferred grants/capital are amortized when utilized
- Review capital assets list for obsolete and retireable assets for year-end auditors
- Assist in Capital budgeting process
Statistical Reporting:
- Prepare statistical entries to comply with Ministry reporting and performance metrics
- Liaise with and prepare various Stats Canada reports
Board Reporting/Others:
- Assist in preparation of financial Board packaging – operating statements, balance sheet, performance metrics, capital spending, etc.
- Assist in researching accounting standards and developments and ensure organizational compliance and propose revised policies if necessary
QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION:
- University degree in business, accounting, or related field
- Mandatory Accounting Designation, CPA (CA preferred) with designation in good standing
- 5+ years proven accounting experience, preferably in a hospital industry setting
- Previous Audit experience in an accounting firm or knowledge of Public Sector Accounting Standards would be considered an asset
- Superior analytical skills and sound business and financial judgement
- Strong ability to translate financial metrics to various stakeholders across the business
- Experience in data query and converting complex data into clear and concise information for clients with varying degrees of financial knowledge (SQL, PowerPivot)
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, primarily strong Excel skills are a must have
- Excellent analytical, writing, and presentation skills; solid business analysis
- Proven ability to solve and prioritize a varied and heavy workload in a changing and fast paced environment
- Ability to take initiative and be proactive in owning projects and processes, working independently without detailed instruction
- Multi-tasker with a solid sense of prioritization and the ability to work under pressure; well organized
- Problem solver with a results-oriented approach; confident in dealing with operations
- Trained in Ministry MIS and working knowledge of Ontario Health Record Keeping System an asset
- Strong verbal communication and presentation skills
