The Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada (FINTRAC) is at the forefront of ensuring the safety of Canadians and the integrity of Canada’s financial system. As Canada’s financial intelligence unit and AML/ATF supervisor, FINTRAC helps combat money laundering, terrorist financing, and threats to the security of Canada.
The Senior Solution Engineer plays a key role in designing, developing, and delivering secure, scalable digital solutions that support FINTRAC’s modernization and automation initiatives. Working collaboratively within agile, multidisciplinary teams, the role translates business requirements into effective technical solutions, leads the development of applications and workflows, and ensures alignment with enterprise architecture, privacy, and security standards.
The incumbent provides technical leadership throughout the solution lifecycle, supports continuous improvement through DevOps and agile practices, mentors junior team members, and contributes to innovation through the adoption of modern tools, cloud services, and low code/no code platforms.
Work environment
FINTRAC is a separate agency and has its own classification system. This position is classified as FC-07 and is generally comparable to (but not an exact equivalent of) the IT-03 group and level.
This position requires onsite presence at FINTRAC headquarters (234 Laurier Avenue West, Ottawa, Ontario) a minimum of three (3) days per week, with the remaining workdays completed remotely, where operationally feasible. Onsite presence may increase beyond three (3) days per week based on operational requirements.

EDUCATION:
ED1 - Graduation from a two‑year program of study from a recognized post‑secondary institution (e.g., college or university) with acceptable specialization in:
- Computer science
- Information technology
- Information management
- Or another specialty relevant to the position to be staffed

EXPERIENCE:
E1 – Recent* experience designing, unit testing, and debugging using frameworks such as Vitest, Jest, or Mocha.
E2 – Recent* experience using TypeScript to write clean, maintainable, and type-safe code.
E3 – Recent* experience mentoring junior developers and conducting code reviews to improve code quality, promote best practices, and support team development.
EXPERIENCE - Stream 1: Frontend Senior JavaScript Solution Engineer
S1E1 – Recent* and significant** experience in software development using JavaScript Single Page Application (SPA) frameworks such as React, Vue, Angular, or Svelte.
S1E2 – Recent* experience designing and developing HTML-based user interfaces that align with defined business requirements and adhere to approved design specifications.
S1E3 – Recent* experience using Tailwind CSS to build responsive user interfaces.
EXPERIENCE - Stream 2: Backend Senior JavaScript Solution Engineer
S2E1 – Recent* and significant** experience in software development using Node.js and REST API frameworks such as Express.
S2E2 – Recent experience* designing and developing REST API interfaces that align with defined business requirements and adhere to approved design specifications.
- Recent experience is defined as having acquired at least one (1) year of experience within the last three (3) years.
** Significant experience is defined as having acquired, within the last five (5) years, a minimum of three (3) years of cumulative experience demonstrating the depth and breadth of activities, as well as the complexity, diversity, and level of autonomy associated with the performance of these duties.

ASSETS:
AE1 – Experience with SQL querying, including joins and views, using databases such as MySQL or SQL Server.
AE2 – Experience designing, implementing, and maintaining Cypress end-to-end (E2E) tests.
AE3 – Experience using API testing tools such as Postman, Bruno, or Insomnia to design, test, and validate REST APIs.
AE4 – Experience designing and evaluating interfaces for ease of use, accessibility, and intuitive navigation.
AE5 – Experience using SAST (Static Application Security Testing) and/or DAST (Dynamic Application Security Testing) tools to identify, assess, and remediate application security vulnerabilities across the software development lifecycle.
