Job Summary
Bates Construction Group is seeking a dependable and experienced Skilled Construction Labourer / Carpenter to join our residential construction and renovation team.
This position is suited to someone with hands-on experience across multiple areas of construction, including framing, drywall, tile, flooring, and finish carpentry. The successful candidate should be comfortable completing assigned work with minimal supervision, working collaboratively with other trades and crew members, and helping guide less-experienced labourers when required.
We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work, maintains a clean and safe job site, communicates well, and can adapt to the variety of tasks involved in residential renovations, additions, and new construction projects.
Duties
- Perform residential carpentry and general construction work with minimal supervision.
- Complete demolition, framing, drywall installation, flooring, tile, trim, door installation, and other finish carpentry tasks.
- Read and follow drawings, measurements, specifications, and instructions from project managers and site supervisors.
- Measure, cut, assemble, and install building materials accurately.
- Safely operate hand tools, power tools, ladders, and other construction equipment.
- Assist with material handling, site preparation, protection of existing finishes, and job-site cleanup.
- Work effectively as part of a construction team and coordinate with other employees and subcontractors.
- Help train, direct, and support general labourers and junior team members.
- Identify potential site issues and communicate them promptly to the project manager or site supervisor.
- Maintain an organized work area and ensure tools and materials are properly stored.
- Follow all company policies, safety requirements, and applicable construction regulations.
- Represent Bates Construction Group professionally while working in clients’ homes and occupied spaces.
Experience
- Previous experience in residential construction, renovations, or a similar hands-on construction role.
- Practical experience with framing, drywall, tile installation, flooring, and finish carpentry.
- Ability to complete skilled construction tasks independently and to a professional standard.
- Strong knowledge of hand tools and power tools.
- Ability to accurately measure, cut, level, and install construction materials.
- Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work well within a team.
- Ability to provide direction and support to less-experienced team members.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to manage daily responsibilities without constant supervision.
- Strong commitment to job-site safety, cleanliness, and quality workmanship.
- Valid driver’s licence and reliable transportation to job sites are preferred.
The ideal candidate is a versatile construction professional who is equally comfortable working independently and as part of a crew. You should take ownership of your work, care about the finished product, and be willing to assist wherever needed to keep projects progressing efficiently.
Experience leading small crews or managing portions of a job site is considered an asset.

Pay: $32.00-$35.00 per hour
