We are looking for a reliable, highly organized and detail-oriented individual to assist with property insurance contents claims.
The position will initially focus primarily on onsite inventory and data collection, contents organization and documentation, claims processing, and replacement-cost research and valuation.
This is a hands-on position requiring strong organizational skills, good judgment, attention to detail, customer service skills and the ability to think on your feet. For the right person, there is significant opportunity to learn the business and potentially develop into a Contents Claims Specialist role over time.
Responsibilities
- Assist with onsite contents inventory and data collection at residential and commercial property-loss sites.
- Photograph and document contents, including accurate descriptions, quantities, brands, models, sizes, materials and other relevant details.
- Assist with the separation, organization and staging of contents onsite to allow for accurate and efficient inventory and documentation.
- Help establish an efficient and organized approach to completing onsite inventories based on the circumstances of each loss.
- Enter, organize and process contents information using Encircle.
- Assist with product identification, replacement-cost research and valuation.
- Research current products, retailers and appropriate like-kind-and-quality replacements.
- Review and organize claim information, photographs and supporting documentation.
- Identify items requiring additional information, research, vendor input or follow-up.
- Work alongside restoration contractors, contents cleaners, electronics specialists and other vendors involved in claims.
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with vendors through good communication, cooperation and professionalism.
- Communicate professionally and respectfully with policyholders, adjusters, contractors and other parties involved in a claim.
- Use good judgment, initiative and problem-solving skills when dealing with unusual items, changing circumstances or challenging site conditions.
- Maintain accurate and organized claim information and documentation.
Qualifications, Education & Experience
- Secondary school diploma or equivalent.
- A university degree or other relevant post-secondary education is considered an asset, but is not a prerequisite.
- Significant relevant industry experience may supersede formal post-secondary education.
- We also recognize that education and previous experience do not always tell the whole story. Candidates who show initiative, curiosity, good judgment, a strong work ethic and a genuine willingness to learn are encouraged to apply. For the right person with the right attitude and potential, we are prepared to provide the opportunity to learn the business and grow with the role.
- Relevant experience in property restoration and contents, contents evaluation, property insurance claims, claims processing, replacement-cost research or product valuation will be given strong consideration.

- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Strong computer skills, including comfort working with Excel, spreadsheets, email and internet-based research.
- Comfortable using smartphones and tablets for onsite documentation.
- Good general product knowledge and familiarity with household and consumer goods.
- Strong internet and retail research skills, including the ability to identify products, locate appropriate replacements and research current retail pricing.
- Observant and able to quickly recognize important product details such as brands, models, materials, sizes and other identifying information.
- Ability to think on your feet, use good judgment, take initiative and find practical and efficient solutions.
- Ability to manage large amounts of information while remaining accurate and organized.
- Ability to learn new processes and technology quickly.
- Ability to work independently once trained while also working effectively alongside others.
- Dependable, professional and reliable.
- Valid driver's licence and access to a reliable insured vehicle are required.
- Physically capable of working onsite for extended periods, including standing, walking, bending, reaching and handling normal household and commercial contents.
