What You’ll Do:
As a Licensing Specialist:
- You will assess applications for licenses for medical, academic and research and industrial uses of nuclear substances and radiation devices.
- You will ensure that the applicant's radiation safety program meets regulatory requirements and standards.
- You will make recommendations to the Designated Officer about whether to issue, renew, amend or revoke a nuclear substances and radiation devices license.
- You may interpret regulations and advise applicants on the regulatory requirements and standards.
- You may participate in compliance and enforcement activities.
- You may communicate, report, and advise internally and externally on nuclear substances and radiation devices regulatory matters.
Essential Qualifications:
Education:
A university degree in science or engineering or community college diploma in science or engineering or an equivalent combination of education, experience and job knowledge.
Language Requirements:

Experience:
REG5
- Participating in preparing or evaluating content of a radiation safety program for low-risk and medium risk licences, or preparing applications for nuclear substances or radiation devices licenses.
- Contributing to a program and/or a project that is technical in nature.
- Handling of nuclear substances/radiation devices.
- Using Microsoft 365 suite and applications.
REG6
- Reviewing, developing or maintaining a radiation safety program, or preparing applications for nuclear substances or radiation devices licenses.
- Managing programs and/or projects that are technical in nature.
- Applying radiation protection principles to the handling of nuclear substances and radiation devices.
- Using Microsoft 365 suite and applications.
- Developing and implementing processes and procedures.
Knowledge of:
- The Nuclear Safety and Control Act (NSCA) and Regulations.
- CNSC licensing requirements, compliance expectations and of the enforcement process applying to licensees.
- Radiation practices and procedures (including but not limited to radiation detection instrumentation and dosimetry, different types of radiation and health impacts, the application of radiation protection principles to large and small radiation sources).
- Radioactive contamination control principles and methods (including but not limited to biological effects of radiation exposure).
- REG5 only: Medical, academic or industrial uses of nuclear substances and radiation devices.
- REG6 only: Medical, academic, and industrial uses of nuclear substances and radiation devices.
Ability to:
- Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with various stakeholders.
- Analyze information and draw the appropriate conclusions.

Asset Qualification:
- Training with radioactive material, radiation safety, radiation protection and radiobiology.
Operational Needs:
- All CNSC staff are subject to the Mobility Directive.
- Overtime: Overtime may be required.
- This position requires occasional travel.
