Why Fraser Health?:
As a Clinical Associate and eventual Medical Emergency Team physician at Royal Columbian Hospital you will work as a part of an inter-disciplinary team providing medical services to critically ill ICU patients. You will have an independent practice license with additional training in ER, Anesthesia, Internal Medicine or previous MET/CA critical care work if Family Practice background. Ideally you possess excellent clinical skills and able to place central venous lines, arterial lines; intubation and airway skills. Current ACLS; ATLS is an asset. Resident/Fellows in training may also apply as supervised Clinal Associates without independent license.
The Royal Columbian Hospital is a Tertiary Referral Centre and one of two Level 1 Trauma Centers in the Lower Mainland of BC. It is the regional referral centre for Fraser Health for Trauma, Neurosurgery, Stroke and Endovascular Thrombectomy, Cardiac Surgery, Interventional Cardiology, Electrophysiology, Extracorporeal Life Support, and Vascular Surgery with 2 Critical Care Units (formerly designated ICU and HAU) supporting these services and general critical care. RCH is approximately 500 beds and affiliated with the University of British Columbia as a teaching site for multiple specialties. RCH is currently undergoing construction of a new Acute Care Tower which will substantially increase capacity.
At present the Critical Care units make up 30 beds (generally 16 ICU and 14 HAU beds with flexibility). We look after neurologically injured patients including severe TBI with ICP and multimodal monitoring, VV-ECLS (with support of ECMO consultant), CRRT, mechanically ventilated patients, and have a large trauma, medical, and surgical referral base. This platform will also be expanding in next few years. There are 2 Royal College trained Intensive Care Physicians on each week who are there during day and alternate night call.
