Job Summary
Ware-washers are accountable for the majority of production, hospital, outreach, cafeteria and catering dish washing, pot washing, and equipment cleaning in the Food Services Department. This position is also responsible for transport of food carts to various units within the facility. Ware-washers maintains Quality Assurance Standards in these areas. Position interfaces strongly with other Food Services Staff and Food Services Supervisors and Manager.
Key Accountabilities
- This position is responsible for transport of food carts to various units within the facility.
- Work with Dietary Aides from the serveries to wash trays & dishes (when a neighbourhood dishwasher is down) as assigned.
- Work with Hospital dietary aides in stripping/ and ware-washing patient trays after meals.
- Wash Production, outreach programs, cafeteria, and catering dishes and deliver to designated areas/programs.
- Follows proper procedures and guidelines for sanitation, food safety and departmental policies to meet Quality Assurance standards.
- Follows proper operating and cleaning procedures for: work area, dish machine, equipment, and pot wash area.
- Participates in department Quality Assurance Program.
- Complies with patient safety programs, and processes including identifying and reporting adverse events/near misses.
- Attends and participates in appropriate safety training or education updates (ie. hand hygiene, emergency code reviews).
- Identifies unsafe conditions or practices and takes appropriate action to address them including reporting or removing hazards.
- Completes other related duties as assigned.
- Contributes to a transparent culture of client and staff safety by adhering to and abiding by patient and staff safety policies and procedures set by SJHC.
- Promotes an environment that encourages and supports change using change leadership theory.
Qualifications & Experience
- Completed or enrolled in Food Services Worker (FSW) program; or
- Currently a student enrolled in any Ontario Post-Secondary Program at a recognized University or College.
- Food Handler’s Certificate (Required)
- Food service experience in a healthcare setting would be an asset.
- Flexible in ability to organize daily work schedule.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Must be team oriented and works well independently.
- Demonstrates the ability to work in a time pressured, fast paced environment.
