The Opportunity
SunMETA Group is currently seeking to fill the permanent role of Front End WordPress Developer to join our marketing team in Calgary, Alberta. You will support the development and maintenance of modern, responsive web experiences that support marketing campaigns, student recruitment, and brand initiatives. Working alongside experienced team members, you will implement website updates, develop frontend features, maintain design consistency, and contribute to user-focused improvements while building your technical skills in modern web development.
Key Responsibilities
- Handle daily website updates including creating new pages and layouts, publishing and formatting content, and maintaining website features
- Collaborate with design and content teams to implement UI improvements
- Convert Figma designs into responsive HTML/CSS.
- Troubleshoot frontend issues with guidance from senior developers.
- Develop and maintain custom WordPress themes and templates.
- Build ACF and Gutenberg blocks.
- Write clean, maintainable HTML, CSS, SCSS, and JavaScript.
- Assist with React or Angular frontend development.
- Ensure websites are responsive and function across modern browsers.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- 3 years of frontend web development experience
- Experience building custom WordPress themes and custom plugins using PHP, React, ACF, Gutenberg blocks, and custom post types
- Experience with PHP for WordPress themes, templates, and custom functionality.
- Proven experience with HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript (ES6+), responsive development, WordPress fundamentals, and Git, Version control
- Experience converting Figma designs
- Exposure to React, Angular, or other JavaScript frameworks
- Basic understanding of modern JavaScript frameworks and how frontend applications communicate with backend services
- Experience building responsive user interfaces through coursework, internships, or personal projects
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to receive feedback professionally and revise content to meet creative direction and project requirements
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and ability to manage deadlines
- A portfolio of front-end development projects must use GitHub repository links or live project URLs to demonstrate

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building custom WordPress themes using ACF, Gutenberg blocks, and custom post types
- Proven experience in building scalable UI systems using modern JavaScript frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue.js
- Experience with Bootstrap/Tailwind or Foundation
- Understanding of CSS architecture and styling frameworks, including SCSS / SASS, CSS Grid, Flexbox, and mobile-first development
- Experience developing reusable UI components and frontend design systems.
- Experience working with REST APIs and basic backend integrations
- Understanding of website performance optimization, caching strategies, Core Web Vitals, and technical SEO best practices
- Familiarity with frontend performance optimization and web accessibility standards (WCAG)
- Experience creating wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes in Figma to demonstrate design concepts, user flows, UI improvements, and proposed changes before development.

Pay: $55,000.00-$65,000.00 per year
