Mitchell Installations Ltd. is seeking an Estimator to join our team. We specialize in the fabrication and installation of industrial piping systems for clients in the power generation, mining, water treatment, and industrial sectors.
The Estimator plays a key role in securing new work by preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates and proposals. The successful candidate will work closely with project managers, suppliers, subcontractors, and company management to evaluate opportunities and develop pricing for industrial mechanical construction projects.
This position is intended to be primarily an estimating role. However, applicants who have experience in both estimating and project management, and are interested in performing a combination of both roles, are encouraged to apply.
## Responsibilities
- Review drawings, specifications, bid documents, and contract requirements.
- Perform quantity takeoffs for piping, valves, fittings, structural supports, equipment, and related mechanical systems.
- Solicit and evaluate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
- Develop labour estimates for shop fabrication and field installation activities.
- Identify project risks, exclusions, assumptions, and scope gaps.
- Prepare detailed estimates, bid summaries, and proposal documents.
- Participate in estimate review meetings with company management.
- Review client-issued addenda and incorporate changes into estimates.
- Maintain estimating databases, historical cost information, and supplier pricing records.
- Coordinate with project managers and field personnel to obtain feedback from completed projects and improve estimating accuracy.
- Assist with pricing change orders and additional work requests on active projects as required.
- Communicate with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors during the bidding process.
- Contribute ideas for improving estimating procedures and company processes.
## Qualifications
- Experience estimating industrial mechanical, piping, or construction projects.
- Ability to read and interpret piping drawings, P&IDs, specifications, and contract documents.
- Strong understanding of industrial piping fabrication and installation methods.
- Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines simultaneously.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
## Preferred Qualifications
- Journeyperson Pipefitter, Mechanical Engineer, Engineering Technologist, Construction Management graduate, or equivalent industry experience.
- Experience with industrial construction projects in power generation, mining, water treatment, oil and gas, or heavy industrial facilities.
- Experience developing labour estimates and productivity analyses.
- Experience reviewing contracts and identifying commercial risks.
- Familiarity with Bluebeam, AutoCAD, and other construction-related software would be an asset.
