KAN Recruitment is currently hiring a Bookkeeper for a well-established and growing client based in Kelowna, BC. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced accounting professional who enjoys managing full-cycle bookkeeping across multiple companies while working in a flexible remote environment.
Reporting to the ownership team, the Bookkeeper will be responsible for overseeing full-cycle bookkeeping, payroll, financial compliance, and day-to-day accounting operations for a group of related corporations. This position requires exceptional organizational skills, strong technical accounting knowledge, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a high level of accuracy and confidentiality.
Responsibilities:
- Manage full-cycle bookkeeping for multiple corporations, including general ledger maintenance, journal entries, reconciliations, intercompany transactions, and month-end processes.
- Process accounts payable and accounts receivable, including invoicing, payment processing, collections, vendor management, and commission verification.
- Prepare and process payroll for multiple companies, including hourly, salaried, unionized, and non-union employees, while ensuring compliance with all payroll remittances and year-end reporting requirements.
- Prepare and file GST, PST, payroll remittances, WorkSafeBC, Employer Health Tax (EHT), and other required government filings.
- Produce financial reports, payroll summaries, and other management reporting to support business operations and decision-making.
- Maintain accurate accounting records, digital filing systems, and supporting documentation while ensuring compliance with company policies and audit requirements.
- Develop and improve accounting procedures, workflows, and internal controls to increase efficiency and accuracy.
- Collaborate with management, external accountants, payroll providers, and government agencies on financial and compliance matters.
- Provide support for the company's U.S. accounting and compliance requirements as needed until those responsibilities transition to an external provider.
- Assist with special projects, system improvements, and other accounting initiatives as required.
Requirements:
- Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
- Minimum five years of full-cycle bookkeeping or accounting experience.
- Experience working with multiple companies or entities is strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian payroll, GST/PST, WorkSafeBC, Employer Health Tax (EHT), and year-end payroll requirements.
- Experience with union payroll and benefits administration is considered an asset.
- Proficiency with QuickBooks Online, Sage, or similar accounting software.
- Strong working knowledge of Google Workspace and Microsoft 365.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and time-management skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and confidentiality.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and consistently meet deadlines.
Working Conditions
- Fully remote position with occasional in-person meetings in the Kelowna area.
- Candidates must reside in the Okanagan, with preference given to those located in Kelowna.
- A reliable home office setup with high-speed internet is required.
- Occasional overtime may be required during payroll processing, month-end, and year-end.
- Regular participation in virtual meetings with leadership and management teams is expected.
