The Role:
As a Security Systems Installation Technician, you will:
- Install, service, maintain, and troubleshoot security systems, including CCTV, access control, alarm systems, and public address/intercom systems.
- Assist with prewiring, installation, termination, testing, commissioning, and maintenance of low-voltage security equipment.
- Mount, aim, focus, and configure CCTV cameras and related equipment.
- Install and test access control components, including card readers, door contacts, request-to-exit devices, locks, power supplies, and controllers.
- Install and troubleshoot alarm system devices, including contacts, motion detectors, keypads, sirens, communicators, and related equipment.
- Assist with basic programming and configuration of security systems under the direction of senior technicians or project leads.
- Perform basic network setup for security equipment, including IP addressing and device connectivity.
- Troubleshoot wiring, device, power, communication, and programming issues.
- Read and follow drawings, schematics, installation manuals, and low-voltage wiring diagrams.
- Complete inspections, testing, and service work to confirm systems are operating properly.
- Maintain accurate job notes, service documentation, and installation records.
- Work safely and professionally on customer sites.
- Support senior technicians and project teams on larger installations and service calls
Your Skills & Experience:
- 1–3 years of experience in security systems, low-voltage installation, electrical, structured cabling, telecommunications, or a related technical field.
- Hands-on experience with CCTV, access control, alarm systems, intercoms, or low-voltage wiring is preferred.
- Experience in commercial security systems is considered an asset.
Required Technical Skills:
- Good mechanical and electrical aptitude.
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools, ladders, meters, and low-voltage installation equipment.
- Ability to pull, terminate, label, and test low-voltage cabling.
- Basic understanding of structured cabling and low-voltage wiring practices.
- Ability to mount and install CCTV cameras, access control devices, alarm devices, intercom equipment, and related security hardware.
- Basic computer skills.
- Basic understanding of IP addressing and network-connected devices.
- Ability to follow blueprints, schematics, installation instructions, and wiring diagrams.
- Ability to troubleshoot common wiring, device, power, and connectivity issues.
Preferred Experience or Training:
- Product-specific training or experience with access control systems such as Kantech, AMAG, ICT, or similar platforms.
- Product-specific training or experience with alarm systems such as DSC, ICT, Bosch, Honeywell, or similar platforms.
- Product-specific training or experience with CCTV systems such as Hanwha, Hikvision, Axis, ExacqVision, or similar platforms.
- Fall Arrest and First Aid certifications are considered assets.
- Electrical, electronics, telecommunications, networking, or low-voltage training is considered an asset.

Other Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license.
- Clean driving record.
- Ability to pass any required background or security screening.
- Ability to lift equipment, use ladders, and work with hand and power tools.
- Ability to travel to customer sites within Halifax Regional Municipality and surrounding areas as required.
