We are currently seeking an experienced and passionate Academic Writing & University Admissions Mentor to join our growing academic team. This position is ideal for educators with strong academic writing skills who are passionate about mentoring students through university applications, research writing, and scholarly communication.
Position Overview
As an Academic Writing, Research & University Admissions Mentor, you will work closely with ambitious high school, undergraduate, and graduate students pursuing admission to top universities and professional programs. You will provide expert guidance in university and medical school application writing, academic research, scholarship applications, and scientific communication, helping students build compelling academic profiles and achieve their educational goals.
Key ResponsibilitiesUniversity Admissions Writing
· Guide students in developing outstanding university application essays, including:
o Personal Statement
o College Application Essays
o Statement of Purpose (SOP)
o Supplemental Essays
· Assist students with scholarship application essays.
o Provide comprehensive guidance on university application materials.
· Help students identify and communicate their unique experiences, leadership, research, extracurricular involvement, and personal strengths through compelling writing.
Academic & Research Writing
· Mentor students in writing:
o Research Papers
o Literature Reviews
o Academic Essays
o Independent Research Projects
· Teach research methodology, academic organization, evidence-based argumentation, and scholarly writing.
· Guide students in conducting literature searches, evaluating sources, and properly citing references using APA, MLA, Chicago, or other citation styles.
· Provide detailed feedback on writing structure, clarity, logic, grammar, style, and overall academic quality.
Student Mentorship
· Deliver one-on-one and small-group mentoring sessions.
· Develop personalized learning plans based on each student's academic goals and writing level.
· Track student progress and provide constructive feedback throughout the mentoring process.
· Foster a supportive, encouraging, and professional learning environment.
Academic Integrity & AI Literacy
· Educate students on North American standards of academic integrity and ethical scholarship.
· Guide students on the appropriate and responsible use of AI-assisted writing tools while maintaining originality, critical thinking, and academic honesty.
Qualifications
· Bachelor's degree required; Master's or PhD preferred.
· Strong academic writing skills in English.
· Experience teaching or mentoring students in academic writing, university admissions, or research projects.
· Familiarity with North American university admissions processes is highly preferred.
· Experience with university application essays, scholarship essays, or graduate school applications is an asset.
· Strong knowledge of research methods and academic citation standards.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
· Ability to mentor students from diverse cultural and educational backgrounds.
· Passion for education and student success.
Preferred Qualifications
Candidates with one or more of the following will be given strong consideration:
· Experience at a university Writing Centre.
· Experience reviewing university application essays.
· Experience supervising student research projects.
· Graduate degree from a leading university.
· Background in university admissions consulting or academic coaching.
· Familiarity with AP Research, IB Extended Essay (EE), Capstone, or undergraduate research programs.
· Multilingual ability (English plus Mandarin, French, Japanese, Spanish, or other languages) is an asset.
· Medical school admissions (Canada or United State)
