Position Overview
Reporting to the Director of HSE and Transportation, the Manager of HSE is responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of the organization’s HSE management system and specific programs to ensure compliance with safety laws and industry best practices.

Responsibilities:
HSE System
- Development, implementation, and maintenance of the organization’s HSE management system and specific programs to ensure compliance with safety laws and industry best practices.
- Develop solutions and implement strategies to address identified key risk areas.
- Support and actively participate in various projects as the leader of the HSE team.
- Liaise with Field HSE and Field supervisors to assess the effectiveness of HSE management program.
- Ensure all weekly and monthly statistical components are submitted as per contract requirements to client groups.
- Provide relevant information to Business Development group for RFP, MSA and other defined contract processes.
- Accountable to the Executive team meeting set KPI targets monthly, quarterly, and annually.
- Ensure that safety certifications systems are working adequately for company needs and ensure systems are up to date.
HSE Communication and Advice
- Keep abreast of legislative changes and best practice methods.
- Advise management of any system and legislative changes to ensure tasks are undertaken safely and comply with internal and external requirements.
- Ensure compliance databases ISNetworld, Complyworks, CQN, Avetta are correct and current.
- Provide accurate and timely advice to managers on prevailing HSE issues weekly.
- Participate in relevant industry bodies, internal HSE forums etc. to maintain a level of contemporary knowledge and best practice approaches.
- Entry and oversight of WCB account and claims and work with external 3rd party case management.
Reporting, Investigation, Assessment, and Audit
- Oversee the monthly HSE reports and data for sites.
- Ensure all statistical information is correct including TRIR, TRIF and Carrier Profile Scoring
- Promote and facilitate the completion of monthly HSE scheduled activities.
- Maintenance of HSE Plans and HSE corrective actions.
- Lead and facilitate investigations with site management to ensure the root causes and corrective actions are identified.
- Ensure an audit is booked and systems are evaluated internally and externally through in house or external auditor participation.
- Ensure annual abstract reviews.

- Ensures quarterly and annual updates to the insurance program are met for fleet and commercial driver submissions/retractions.
Financial
- Meets targeted budgets for HSE Department
- Ensure cost controls within department.

- Ensure the overall Business, Office, Shop and Yard are maintained and kept tidy and organized.

Skills/Experience
- Formal qualifications in OH&S or associated fields (with minimum 5 years’ experience).
- Sound understanding of HSE legislative requirements.
- Formal Training & Assessment qualifications desirable.
- Proficient at using and generating documents with MS Word, Excel, and power point.
- Broad knowledge and experience in risk assessments and audit processes.
- Leadership skill training to maintain a strong HSE team and to work with fleet stakeholders.
- A team builder and capacity to engage audiences across all levels.
- Capability to manage conflict and change effectively.
- Good analytical and reasoning capabilities.
- Consultative orientation and efficient time management skills.

Experience:
- HSE Management: 5 years (preferred)
- Trucking and Transportation Industry: 3 years (preferred)
Licence/Certification:
- Industry Related Certifications ie: CRSP, NCSO (preferred)
Job Types: Permanent, Full-time
Schedule:
- 7AM – 4:30PM
- Monday to Friday
- On call (Shared responsibility)
- Overtime (When required)
Work Location: In person, Must be willing to travel to all Branches (Peace River, Grande Prairie, Fort Saskatchewan and Nisku)
Pay: $90,000.00-$120,000.00 per year
