We are looking for an experienced Gradesperson / Construction Surveyor to join our team and lead site layout for utilities, site work and commercial excavation projects. In this position, you will take full ownership of site layout, verify elevations, and interpret civil blueprints to ensure our earthworks, deep utilities, and commercial excavation projects are executed to exact specifications
Core Responsibilities
· Site Layout & Staking: Set up and maintain accurate grade stakes, benchmarks, and offset lines for excavations, slopes, sub-grades, and utilities.
· Equipment Operations: Utilize GPS equipment (Trimble/Topcon), total stations, and traditional laser/transit levels to verify and monitor site elevations.
· Blueprint Interpretation: Read, interpret, and execute civil engineering drawings, grading plans, and structural blueprints.
· As-Built Data Collection: Calculate cut/fill quantities and capture accurate as-built data for project tracking and reporting.
· Team Collaboration: Work closely with Foremen, Project Managers, and Heavy Equipment Operators to communicate grade changes and ensure production stays on track.
· Safety Leadership: Strictly adhere to provincial OHS regulations and company safety management systems to maintain a zero-incident job site.
· Troubleshoot: Maintain survey equipment, perform calibration, and troubleshoot technical issues as needed.
What You Bring
- Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years of proven experience as a gradesperson or construction surveyor in heavy civil earthworks, commercial excavation, or road building.
- Technical Skill: High proficiency with GPS surveying technology, data collectors, and reading complex civil blueprints.
- Physical Fitness: Ability to work long hours outdoors in varying Alberta weather conditions, walking rugged terrain, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Attributes: Strong mathematical aptitude, excellent spatial awareness, clear communication skills, and a reliable work ethic.
