Job Purpose
The Arts & Athletics Manager is responsible for shaping one of the defining parts of the Muskoka Woods summer camp experience. By leading exceptional young people, designing world-class programming and pursuing excellence in every detail, this role creates the environment where thousands of guests discover new skills, build confidence, build meaningful friendships and make memories that last a lifetime.
The Arts & Athletics Manager provides leadership for all arts and athletic programming across Muskoka Woods summer camp. This includes overseeing activity development, scheduling, facilities, purchasing and equipment, while selecting, training and coaching a high-performing team of young leaders. The role is responsible for maintaining the highest standards of safety, instruction and operational excellence, ensuring every activity is engaging, professionally executed and consistently delivers an exceptional camper experience from the first week of summer to the last.
Key Job Functions
Arts & Athletic Program Development
Lead the ongoing development and enhancement of Muskoka Woods’ arts and athletics programming, ensuring activities remain innovative, engaging and aligned with the organization’s standards of excellence.
Benchmark current programming against industry best practices and emerging trends, identifying opportunities to strengthen the guest experience.
Champion the AAA skill and character development framework across all activities, ensuring consistent implementation and meaningful participant recognition.
Develop and introduce new activities that enhance the overall camp experience and meet the evolving interests of guests.
Oversee the design and management of the cabin activity schedule (Activity Matrix), maximizing program quality, efficiency and guest participation.
Develop, evaluate and continuously improve lesson plans and instructional resources to ensure consistent, high-quality activity delivery.
Arts & Athletic Operations
Provide operational leadership for all arts and athletics facilities and activity areas, ensuring they are safe, organized and guest-ready throughout the season.
Lead departmental risk management initiatives by maintaining the highest standards of safety, instruction and operational excellence.
Oversee all pre-season set up and post-season tear down of arts and athletics facilities and activity spaces.
Manage departmental equipment, inventory and purchasing, including lifecycle planning and end-of-season equipment sales.
Staff Recruitment, Training and Leadership
Partner with the Human Resources team to recruit, interview and hire seasonal Arts & Athletics staff, with a particular focus on Athletic Directors and Area Heads.
Lead, coach and develop a team of more than 115 seasonal Arts & Athletics staff, fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, collaboration and exceptional guest service.
Provide direct leadership, coaching and performance management for Athletic Directors and Area Heads, supporting their growth as confident and effective leaders.
Conduct Growth Rings performance reviews, providing regular coaching, feedback and development opportunities.
Design and deliver department-specific training for Directors, Area Heads and Instructors, equipping staff to deliver safe, engaging and high-quality programming.
Provide leadership to Christian spiritual formation initiatives – leading a Bible Study, prayer meetings and 1:1 mentoring relationships.
Guest Experience
Champion an exceptional guest experience across all arts and athletics programming, supporting staff in resolving guest concerns with professionalism, care and a commitment to service excellence.
Respond to parent feedback and guest survey results, identifying opportunities to strengthen programming and continuously improve the overall guest experience.
Leadership & Organizational Contribution
Model the mission, vision, values, and leadership expectations of Muskoka Woods in all interactions.
Contribute positively to the Summer Team by sharing ideas, supporting projects, and fostering collaboration across departments.
Work cross departmentally with School & Retreats as required
Participate in weekly L10 meetings and other leadership meetings as required.
Attend corporate events including Town Halls, leadership gatherings, the Arboretum, and the annual Full-Time Staff Retreat.
Pursue ongoing personal, spiritual, and professional development to enhance leadership effectiveness and recruitment expertise.
Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by the Summer Camp Director.

Experience Required
College/University degree
5 years of summer camp experience or the equivalent in working with children and youth
2 – 3 years of proven leadership experience
Essential Functions:
Ability to communicate, both written and verbal with guests and staff
Able to stand, walk and work for 8 to 10 hours a day in the summer months
Possess physical and mental strength and endurance to maintain constant supervision of guests and staff during the summer months
Ability to work 6 days a week for 10 weeks during the summer months. (time to be given in lieu after the summer)
Please note: From September to April this position is located as work from home but should be able to be at in person meetings in our Markham office or in Muskoka 2 days a week. From May through to the end of August this position is located at the Resort in Rosseau, ON. – Accommodation is provided.
Salary Range:
$45,500 – $52,000
