Dirt-E Construction is seeking a dependable and safety-focused Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team. The successful candidate will operate a variety of heavy construction equipment to support excavation, grading, site preparation, road construction, utility installation, and other civil construction projects. We are looking for someone who takes pride in producing quality work, works well with others, and maintains a strong commitment to safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate heavy equipment including excavators, loaders, skid steers, and rollers.
- Perform excavation, grading, trenching, backfilling, and material handling according to project specifications.
- Conduct daily pre-operation and post-operation equipment inspections.
- Report equipment defects, maintenance needs, and safety concerns promptly.
- Perform routine maintenance, including fueling, greasing, and cleaning equipment.
- Read and interpret site plans, grades, stakes, and utility markings.
- Work closely with supervisors, grade checkers, and ground personnel to complete projects efficiently.
- Follow all company safety policies, provincial regulations, and job site procedures.
- Maintain accurate records of equipment usage and inspections as required.
- Assist with general labour duties when equipment operation is not required.
- Help maintain a clean, organized, and productive work site.
Qualifications
- Previous experience operating heavy construction equipment.
- Valid driver's licence (Class 3 or higher is considered an asset).
- Knowledge of safe excavation practices and underground utility awareness.
- Ability to read construction drawings and follow grade stakes is an asset.
- Strong understanding of equipment operation, maintenance, and safety procedures.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Reliable, punctual, and committed to producing high-quality work.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks when necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in civil construction, road building, or underground utility installation.
- WHMIS, First Aid, Confined Space, or other construction safety certifications.
- Experience operating GPS or grade control systems is an asset.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit and operate equipment for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs when required.
- Comfortable working in various weather and site conditions.
- Ability to climb in and out of heavy equipment safely throughout the workday.
