Position Summary
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a senior executive responsible for leading and overseeing all financial operations. Reporting directly to the CEO, the CFO acts as a key strategic partner to the CEO and senior management team, ensuring the financial health, integrity, and long-term stability of the organization. The CFO will provide effective leadership to the finance team while managing financial reporting, compliance, cash flow, investments, taxation, risk, and key external relationships.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Operations Management
- Effectively manage the Group’s financial operations, including financial reporting and compliance, cash flow management, investment management, and the annual budget process.
– Ensure accurate, timely, and compliant financial reporting in accordance with applicable accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
– Oversee cash flow forecasting and management to ensure the Group’s liquidity and operational funding needs are met.
– Direct the management of Group investments in alignment with organizational objectives and risk tolerance.
– Lead the annual budget process, working collaboratively with department and business unit leaders.
Finance Team Leadership
- Provide effective leadership to the finance team, fostering a culture of accountability, professional development, and continuous improvement.
– Recruit, mentor, and develop finance staff to build organizational capability and succession depth.
– Set clear goals and performance expectations for the finance function.
Tax Management
- Effectively manage taxes for the Group, including income tax and Harmonized Sales Tax (HST).
– Ensure timely and accurate filing of all corporate tax obligations.
– Identify and implement tax planning strategies that optimize the Group’s tax position while maintaining full compliance.
Executive & Financial Support
- Provide effective financial support to the CEO and senior management team.
– Deliver timely financial analysis, reporting, and recommendations to support strategic decision-making.
– Act as a trusted financial advisor on major business initiatives, capital projects, and investment decisions.
Risk Management
- Provide effective risk management across the Group’s financial and operational activities.
– Identify, assess, and mitigate financial, operational, and compliance risks.
– Maintain appropriate internal controls and insurance coverage.
External Relationship Management
- Effectively manage relationships with outside parties, including bankers, auditors, and lawyers.
– Serve as the primary point of contact for banking relationships, financing arrangements, and covenant compliance.
– Coordinate with external auditors to ensure a smooth and effective annual audit process.
– Liaise with legal counsel on corporate, contractual, and regulatory matters affecting the Group’s finances.
Qualifications & Experience
- University degree, together with a professional accounting designation (e.g., CPA).
- A minimum of 15 years of progressive finance experience, of which at least 10 years must be in senior finance positions.
- Demonstrated experience managing a systems project, including at least one major system implementation.
- Excellent “Information Systems Sense,” with the ability to evaluate, select, and oversee the implementation of financial and enterprise systems.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and credibility with the CEO, senior management, the finance team, and external stakeholders.
- Proven track record in financial reporting, compliance, budgeting, cash flow and investment management, and taxation, ideally within a construction, aggregates, or related industrial sector.
- Strong leadership skills with demonstrated ability to build, mentor, and manage a high-performing finance team.
- Sound judgment and a strategic mindset, balancing day-to-day financial management with long-term business objectives.
Pay: $140,000.00-$232,135.90 per year
