About the Role
Kanigan Construction is a small, hands-on heavy civil and site development contractor based in Greater Victoria. We're looking for a reliable labourer to work alongside our owner-operator on a variety of jobs, no two days look the same. You'll be part of a small, tight-knit crew where your work directly matters, not lost in a big company.
Our work includes excavation, drainage, retaining walls, driveways, site prep, demolition, and small park/playground installations. You'll be working with equipment like mini excavators, skid steers, and dump trucks, so there's real opportunity to pick up new skills on the job.
What You'll Do
- Assist with site prep: clearing debris, setting up work areas, staging materials
- Handle manual work: digging, lifting, carrying, and general material handling
- Help operate and maintain hand tools and small equipment under supervision
- Support the crew across different trades and job types as needed — excavation one day, demolition or a retaining wall the next
- Follow safety protocols and keep the work site organized
- Help with cleanup and equipment storage at the end of each day
What We're Looking For
- A strong work ethic: shows up on time, works hard, doesn't need to be told twice
- A good attitude: positive, willing, easy to work alongside on long days
- A genuine willingness to learn — asks questions, pays attention, wants to get better
- Some experience in construction, landscaping, or general labour (not required, but an asset, )
- Physically fit and comfortable with hands-on, outdoor work in all weather
- Reliable, shows up on time, and works well without constant supervision
- Willing to learn and take direction: we'll teach you the rest
- Valid driver's license
- Comfortable working as part of a small team
