The Location
Beautiful Plains School Division is located west of Winnipeg and east of Brandon in Southwest Manitoba. The Division Office and central bus garage are located in Neepawa, Manitoba. Neepawa is a vibrant, growing community of 5,850 residents deserving of its logo, “Land of Plenty.” It has a hospital and excellent recreational facilities that include an ice hockey rink, baseball diamonds, curing rink and an 18-hole championship golf course. For history buffs and literary lovers, the Margaret Laurence Home is a great attraction. One of Manitoba’s Star Attractions and now a Provincial Heritage Site and Level 2 Museum, the turn of the century house is the childhood home and living memorial to the world-renowned author Margaret Laurence.
The division spans an area approximately 50 miles long and 20 miles wide encompassing 14 schools and has enrolment of 2,200 students.
The Position
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Fleet Manager/Transportation Supervisor to oversee the Beautiful Plains School Division's pupil transportation operations and logistics. The Fleet Manager/Transportation Supervisor is responsible for the operation of pupil transportation services and the school bus fleet management. The Manager reports directly to the Division’s Secretary-Treasurer and works closely with the Superintendent of Schools and School Principals on pupil issues.
Key Responsibilities
The student transportation system consists of 22 regular bus routes transporting 750 students daily. In addition, 500 plus extracurricular trips are organized yearly. The Division owned bus fleet is serviced and safetied at the bus garage in Neepawa. Responsibilities also include:
Supervisory duties: 25 regular bus drivers, 15 substitute drivers and 3 bus garage mechanics, including performance reviews as outlined in Division Policy.
· Plan and coordinate pupil transportation routes.
Fleet management duties:
o Assess, plan, coordinate, prioritize and direct preventive maintenance programs for division owned buses and vehicles.
o Ensure the division bus fleet is maintained within provincial and federal legislation/regulations.
Finance, purchasing and accounts
o Prepare an annual transportation operating budget.
o Prepare school bus and divisional vehicle replacement projections.
o Examine and approve all accounts for work under his/her direction.
o Plan purchasing of transportation supplies, services and equipment.
The Candidate
The ideal candidate will possess strong skills in transportation management systems, data analysis, procurement, and process improvement to optimize fleet performance and support overall student transportation requirements.
The successful candidate will have:
· 3-5 years supervisory experience in the fleet management sector.
· Technology expertise relating to fleet management including GPS tracking software, inventory management software, routing software and Microsoft Office.
· Demonstrated strong organizational and interpersonal skills and the ability to work collectively in a team environment.
· Candidate must possess or have the ability to obtain Manitoba School Bus Driver Instructor Certificate.
· Training /and or experience in transportation logistics.
Possession of a Class 2 Driver’s License and a background in bus vehicle mechanical repair would be assets.
Pay: $90,000.00-$113,000.00 per year
