This essential role bridges the compassionate care of veterinary nursing with the technical demands of surgical assistance, ensuring that pets receive optimal outcomes during surgical procedures. This role requires a strong commitment to animal welfare, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. As a techncian, one is at the forefront of veterinary medicine, collaborating closely with veterinarians to manage the entire surgical process—from pre-operative preparation to post-operative care. With a combination of advanced medical knowledge, precise technical skills, and a deep commitment to animal welfare, technicians play a critical role in the surgical team. They meticulously prepare operating rooms, sterilize instruments, monitor anesthesia, and provide vital support during surgical procedures. Additionally, they offer post-operative care and educate pet owners on recovery protocols to ensure a smooth healing process. Responsibilities & Duties
- Assist veterinarians during surgical procedures.
- Prepare animals for surgery by shaving and disinfecting surgical sites.
- Monitor anesthesia and vital signs during surgery.
- Maintain sterile surgical instruments and environments.
- Provide post-operative care and monitor recovery of surgical patients.
- Administer medications and treatments as directed by the veterinarian.
- Educate pet owners about nutrition, medications, treatments, post-surgical care and recovery.
- Maintain accurate medical records and documentation.
- Sterilize and organize surgical equipment and instruments.
- Assist in the development and implementation of surgical protocols.
- Ensure compliance with veterinary regulations and standards.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience in a veterinary surgical setting.
- Certification as a Veterinary Technician or strong proven work experience and proven passion for significant CE.
- Proficiency in surgical instrument handling and care.
- Proficiency in taking dental radiographs
- Strong understanding of anesthesia monitoring and administration.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Advanced training or coursework in veterinary surgery.
- Basic knowledge of surgical techniques and protocols.
- Ability to lift and handle animals of various sizes.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Compassion for animals and dedication to their well-being.
- Ability to create and maintain professional medical records.
- Ability to foster and maintain a positive work environment.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including some weekends.
