Come do work that matters — and be genuinely valued for it.
Ember Care is a new home care agency serving Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge and nearby communities, and we're building our founding team of companion caregivers. If you're the kind of person who can turn a lonely afternoon into a good one — who notices the small things, shows up when you say you will, and treats an 85-year-old with the same respect you'd want for your own grandparent — we'd love to meet you.
What you'd do
You'd visit clients in their own homes and help them live well there:
- Good company and real conversation — being a familiar, trusted face
- Help with meals, light housekeeping, and laundry
- Errands, shopping, and getting to appointments
- Medication reminders (we remind — we don't administer)
- A steady eye on safety and wellbeing
- Simple, meaningful company for someone who may not see many people
You'd work to a written care plan built around each person — never a rushed checklist — so you always know what matters most to the person in front of you.
Who we're looking for
- A warm, dependable person who genuinely likes older adults and people who need a hand
- Reliable above all — for someone living alone, you showing up isn't a nicety, it's everything
- A calm communicator and a good problem-solver
- Comfortable working independently in clients' homes
- Experienced. We're looking for people who've already cared for older adults or people who need support — paid or in a substantial personal role — so you arrive ready to build relationships, not to learn the basics
A note on training: You don't need dementia certifications to apply — but once you've completed your probation with us, we reimburse the cost of professional dementia training, and your safety and privacy orientation is paid from day one.
What we offer — plainly
- $20–$23/hour, based on your experience and certifications and reviewed twice a year
- Paid travel time between clients, plus mileage at the CRA rate — your time is paid, not just your visits
- Dementia-certification costs reimbursed after you complete probation — and your paid safety and privacy orientation starts day one
- Overnight sleep-in shifts paid at a set nightly stipend on top of your hourly rate for any active care
- Consistent clients — we match you with the same people wherever we can, so you build real relationships instead of meeting a stranger every shift
- You're an employee, not a contractor — WSIB coverage, vacation pay, and proper payroll
- A founder who has your back — a real person answers the on-call phone 24/7, and you're never sent into a home without knowing what to expect
An honest word about hours
We're new and growing. Hours start flexible — days, evenings, weekends, and overnight options — and build as our client base grows. This suits someone who wants meaningful part-time or casual work they can grow into, rather than a guaranteed 40 hours from day one.
Ready?
Apply with a short note about why this work appeals to you. A real person — not a bot — reads every application, and we aim to tell interviewed candidates our decision within 45 days. A clear Vulnerable Sector Check is required before working with clients, and we'll guide you through it.
Ember Care is an equal-opportunity employer. We welcome applicants of every background, including newcomers to Canada, and we'll gladly accommodate any part of the hiring process — just ask.
