The Law Clerk will work directly for the Principal Lawyer and Head of Litigation and will be given substantial responsibility. The Law Clerk will enjoy high levels of support and a commitment to professional development while working closely with team members and clients. The Law Clerk will be exposed to a variety of legal matters, including commercial disputes, construction disputes, employment disputes and insurance disputes among others.
Key Areas of Responsibility
- File Management from intake to trial
- Prepare correspondence, requesting medicals, employment records
- Briefing and update files including initial reports, etc.
- Draft and revise various court documents such as Pre-Trial Memorandum, Affidavit of Documents
- Motion Records, Statement of Claim, and Trial Records as requested
- Draft Mediation Memorandums and pre-trial memo, trial briefs, AODs etc.
- Prepare assessable disbursements and assist with billing, when needed.
- Review and summarize medical documents and other file contents
- Schedule client meetings, Mediations and Examinations for Discovery - Maintain and manage Counsel’s calendar
- Trial Preparation including preparing summons to witness, Notice of Intent and document briefs
- Other administrative duties as required.
Qualifications
- Able and willing to work full-time in-office (midtown Toronto)
- Law Clerk Diploma from a recognized college
- 3+ years of demonstrated experience within a litigation law firm for both Small Claims and Superior Court matters
- Hands on experience with Case Center (CaseLines)
- Demonstrated experience with Clio or other similar Legal software
- Excellent written and verbal skills, able to communicate effectively with a wide audience
- Flexible, strong time management skills, deadline-oriented and able to effectively manage multiple priorities
- Resourceful, and proactive with strong problem-solving skills
- Strong sense of professionalism and able to work well under pressure or within tight deadlines Customer service focused
- Advanced MS Office skills
- Proven ability to work well both independently and as part of a team
