JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Property Maintenance Technician - Handyman
LOCATION: Cambridge Bay, Nunavut
START DATE: Immediately
PURPOSE
We are a growing Property Management company looking for an organized and detail-oriented candidate to fill an opening we currently have for a Property Maintenance Technician - Handyman. This is a FULL TIME position ideally suited for an experienced and mechanically inclined individual that enjoys working with their hands
SCOPE
The Property Maintainer will be responsible for the safe and efficient repairs and maintenance on properties. They will also ensure that accurate and timely information regarding supplies, tools and time are provided and recorded as required.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Property Maintainer is required to:
- operate as a team member in a cross cultural work environment.
- follows all required safety procedures.
- complete construction/renovation projects, and maintenance with a team of workers and apprentice.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Skills & Knowledge:
· Determine specifications and calculate requirements
· Prepare layouts
· Measure, cut, shape, assemble and join moldings, wood materials, drywall and plastics materials
· Fit and install windows, doors, moldings and hardware
· Taping, Mudding, Sanding and Painting
· Install various types of flooring including carpet, lino, laminate and hardwood
· Install counters and cabinets
· Build exterior stairs and railings
· A good understanding and use of all hand tools.
Ability to cut keys, re-key handles and install commercial door hardware
The ability to fix commercial overhead garage doors.
· Great organizational and communication skills.
· The ability to multi-task stay focused and remain detail oriented.
· The ability to set work goals work independently and with a team to achieve
· An appropriate level of physical fitness to complete required work load
· Ability to lift and carry up to 40lbs
· Valid driver’s license.
· Current first aid certificate (standard or emergency).
Education:
- Trades Certificate is preferred
Experience:
- 3-5 years experience in the construction/renovations of residential housing.
- 2 years experience in Northern Construction
- 5 years experience reading construction drawings, and able to modify the designs where required, while keeping the construction standards to an equivalent or greater than the original design.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The successful candidate will be expected to work 10-12 hour shifts while on site, on a rotational basis. Occupational Health and Safety is of major importance and all personnel are required to follow good work practices, completing tasks in a safe and orderly manner.
