Job Summary:
We currently have an open position for a QA/QC Technician to join our team on a rotational shift (7:00 am – 3:30 pm and 2:30 pm – 11:00 pm). This role is responsible for receiving, labeling, and testing samples and products formulated in the facility. This role involves operating various laboratory instruments, performing quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) tests, and ensuring compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct various laboratory testing procedures in accordance with SOPs to verify product quality and compliance
- Handle and operate sensitive laboratory instruments, including but not limited to: Gas Chromatography (GC)), Liquid Chromatography (LC, HPLC), pH meters, Analytical balances, Viscometers, Titration equipment, Moisture analyzers (if applicable), Density meters and Karl Fischer Titrators
- Perform sample preparation, testing, and data interpretation with precision and accuracy
- Record all test results and analytical data in the designated formats
- Maintain and update equipment records and daily laboratory logbooks
- Ensure proper calibration, performance verification, and routine maintenance of laboratory instruments according to established procedures
- Assist with method validation, verification, and laboratory procedure updates under supervision
- Perform laboratory supplies inventory and communicate the needs to the supervisor
- Review customer manuals, product specifications, and other documented customer requirements prior to the start of each production campaign to ensure product quality and compliance with agreed specifications
- Prepare, review, update, and issue production documentation, including packaging batch sheets and formulation/blend sheets, ensuring proper version control and alignment with approved formulations and quality requirements
- Review production batch records, test reports, certificates of analysis (COA), and other quality documents for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with internal procedures and regulatory requirements
- Support QA documentation activities including document control, SOP creation and updates, quality records management, and controlled document distribution
- Participate in internal quality audits, compliance checks, and continuous improvement initiatives related to laboratory and quality systems
- Assist in investigations of non-conforming results, and quality deviations, including documentation of findings and corrective actions
- Ensure laboratory compliance with applicable quality systems and standards such as Croplife and AWSA standards and ISO 9001 Quality Management System
- Follow all laboratory safety protocols, including proper handling of corrosive, flammable, and hazardous chemicals
- Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient laboratory environment in accordance with company policies
- Collaborate with the QA/QC team and production staff to address quality-related concerns
- Perform other duties related to quality control testing, quality assurance documentation, and laboratory operations as required
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- College Diploma or University Degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a Lab Technician Program
- Minimum 1 year of previous lab experience in operating GC and HPLC required
- Understanding of laboratory quality control programs and compliance requirements
- Ability to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments
- Strong analytical mindset with the ability to follow SOPs precisely
- Proficiency in MS Office (especially Excel) for data analysis; strong mathematical knowledge is an asset
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for reporting and collaboration
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple responsibilities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- A proactive and trustworthy individual who can work independently and within a team
Working Conditions:
- Given the nature of production, this position has a shift rotation (day and evening)
- Work is performed in both a laboratory and a busy plant facility
- Must be able to lift at least 25lbs occasionally
- Prolonged periods of standing and conducting tests may be necessary
- Overtime, as required
