Job Summary
We are seeking an Ophthalmic Technician / Medical Office Administrator to be a foundational component of our new clinic, Waterloo Region Retina Institute. The ideal candidate will provide excellent patient care in a busy ophthalmology practice. Prior experience in an optometry/ophthalmology settings is preferred.
This is a permanent full-time position is Tuesdays to Fridays with possibility of Monday work in the future.
Responsibilities
- Perform basic patient histories and patient intake
- Perform preliminary eye examinations including visual acuity, intraocular pressure, administration of drops. Training is provided
- Perform diagnostic testing (OCT, fundus photography, visual fields, biometry, autorefraction). Training is provided
- Clean and maintain ophthalmic equipment and instruments
- Load examination lanes with patients
- Prepare medications for physician use
- Reception work checking patients in and booking follow ups
- Optimize and manage clinic bookings and doctors' schedules, including: Intake of patient referrals, scheduling, and communicating appointments to patients and referring providers
- Answering patient and referring provider phone calls
- Preparing patient forms, documentation, and invoices
Skills

- Experience working in the ophthalmic/optometric industry preferred
- Proficiency in Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems such as OSCAR preferred
- Proven ability to work proficiently in a fast-paced environment

- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent attendance and employment record

Pay Range: $21-$25/hr commensurate on experience
