The Solar Drafter position within the engineering team involves assisting engineers in producing complete solar PV system designs. The primary responsibilities of the drafter include drafting site layouts using CAD software, reviewing project field documentation, and assembling drawings and details relevant to the PV system. Collaboration with the project engineer/manager on technical aspects of each project is also required.
To excel in this role, candidates should possess a results-oriented mindset and have a passion for energy and sustainable growth. The company is willing to provide all necessary training to familiarize candidates with the PV and smart-grid industries.
The essential duties and responsibilities of a Solar Drafter include:
- Generating construction drawing packages, sketches, and as-builts using CAD software.
- Creating general arrangement and layout drawings.
- Drafting section and elevation drawings.
- Preparing construction details.
- Developing single-line and three-line diagrams.
- Maintaining CAD templates and libraries.
- Compiling equipment documentation and specification sheets for customer submissions.
- Providing clients with preliminary concept drawings and technical assistance as required.
- Performing additional responsibilities to support project completion.
Education or desired skills, licenses, and certificates for the Solar Drafter position include:
- CAD software knowledge and experience is mandatory.
- Strong understanding of general math, trigonometry, and geometry.
- General understanding of electrical and mechanical concepts.
- Knowledge of drafting symbols and abbreviations.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Self-motivation and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Teamwork skills to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
- Clear written and verbal communication with team members, customers, and vendors.
Additional knowledge, skills, and abilities that are considered advantageous for candidates include:
- Experience with Solar PV designs.
- Proficiency in engineering and design workflows.
- Familiarity with reading and interpreting codes, particularly the National Electrical Code (NEC).
- Strong attention to detail and proofreading skills.
- Excellent organization skills and the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced work environment.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to work both independently and within a team environment.
