SpeechEase is looking for a passionate and skilled Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) to join our growing multidisciplinary team and provide counselling services to children, teens, and their families.
We are looking for a clinician who enjoys working with children and adolescents (ages 0–18) and is passionate about helping young people develop the emotional, social, and coping skills they need to thrive. At SpeechEase, we take a child-centered and play-based approach to therapy, while recognizing that every client is different and that clinicians may draw from a variety of therapeutic modalities and approaches.
This is a part-time independent contractor position offering $90–$100 per hour, with flexible scheduling and the opportunity to provide a combination of in-person and virtual/telehealth services.

About the Role
As a Registered Clinical Counsellor at SpeechEase, you will provide individualized counselling and mental health support to primarily pediatric and adolescent clients.
You will have the flexibility to determine the most clinically appropriate service delivery model for each client, including in-person therapy, virtual counselling, or a combination of both.
Our clinical environment is child-centered, relationship-based, and play-based, particularly when working with younger clients. We welcome clinicians who bring a range of therapeutic orientations and clinical expertise, provided their practice aligns with a collaborative, evidence-informed, and child-focused approach.
You may support children and teens experiencing a wide range of emotional, behavioural, social, and mental health concerns, including:
- Anxiety and excessive worry
- Depression and mood-related concerns
- Emotional regulation and coping challenges
- Behavioural and emotional difficulties
- ADHD-related challenges
- Self-esteem and confidence
- Social and peer relationship challenges
- School-related stress and difficulties
- Family and relationship concerns
- Trauma and stressful life experiences
- Grief and loss
- Neurodiversity-related challenges
- Adjustment and life transitions
- Other mental health and emotional well-being concerns
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct initial counselling assessments and identify client goals and areas of support
- Provide individual counselling and psychotherapy to children and adolescents
- Develop individualized treatment goals and therapeutic plans
- Use developmentally appropriate and evidence-informed counselling approaches
- Incorporate play-based and child-centered therapeutic techniques where clinically appropriate
- Support children and teens in developing emotional regulation, coping, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Provide age-appropriate mental health education and therapeutic strategies
- Collaborate with parents and caregivers when clinically appropriate
- Work collaboratively with SpeechEase's multidisciplinary clinical team
- Collaborate with Speech-Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Dietitians, and other professionals
- Consult with families, schools, and other professionals when appropriate and with appropriate consent
- Maintain timely, accurate, and professional clinical documentation
- Provide practical strategies and recommendations that support clients across home, school, and community environments
- Participate in collaborative case discussions and team communication as appropriate
- Provide services virtually, in person, or through a combination of both based on clinical judgment, client needs, and clinician preference
Qualifications Required
- Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) in good standing with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC)
- Eligible to practice as an RCC in British Columbia
- Eligible to work in Canada
- Experience working with children and/or adolescents
- Strong clinical, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently within an independent contractor model
- Ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team
- Successful completion of a Criminal Records Review Check, if required
Preferred / Assets
- Experience providing counselling or psychotherapy to children and adolescents
- Experience with play-based therapy
- Experience working with neurodivergent children and teens
- Experience supporting anxiety, depression, emotional regulation, ADHD, trauma, self-esteem, behavioural concerns, or school-related challenges
- Experience working collaboratively with parents and caregivers
- Experience working within a multidisciplinary pediatric setting
- Training in CBT, DBT, ACT, trauma-informed practice, attachment-based therapy, play therapy, or other evidence-informed approaches
- Experience providing virtual/telehealth counselling

Schedule & Locations
This is a part-time independent contractor position, with hours varying according to client demand and clinician availability.
In-person services are available at our:
- Coquitlam clinic
- Burnaby clinic
Clinicians may also provide virtual/telehealth services to clients across SpeechEase's broader caseload, including clients connected to our Coquitlam, Burnaby, North Vancouver, Richmond, and Port Alberni locations.
The balance between in-person and virtual services can be determined in collaboration with the clinician based on clinical appropriateness, client needs, and clinician preference.
Scheduling is flexible.
Days of work, hours, service location, and work areas may change based on operational and client needs.
Compensation
$90–$100 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
