Job Summary
The EDM/CNC Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining EDM & CNC machines to produce precision parts according to engineering specifications. The role involves setting up machines, monitoring the machining process, and ensuring that parts meet quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Study job orders and interpret blueprints to determine machining operations to be performed
- Set up and operate electrical discharge machine (E.D.M.) to perform repetitive machining operations, such drilling and cutting of profiles or other machining operations
- Verify dimensions of parts machined using micrometers, calipers and other precision measuring instruments
- May enter codes specifying speed, feed and cut of the toolpath for electrical discharge machine (E.D.M.) & CNC.
- Verify dimensions of parts machined using micrometers, calipers and other precision measuring instruments. Perform routine maintenance & cleaning on equipment and machinery
- May enter codes specifying speed, feed and cut of the toolpath for computer numerical controlled (CNC) & EDM machine tools.
- Operate EDM or CNC machines to cut and shape metal parts according to technical drawings and specifications.
- Set up EDM & CNC machines, including installing and aligning electrodes, fixtures, and tooling.
- Continuously monitor machine operation to ensure accurate and efficient machining. Make adjustments as needed to maintain quality and efficiency.
- Inspect machined parts for conformance to specifications using measurement tools and equipment. Perform routine checks to ensure part accuracy and quality.
- Perform regular maintenance and cleaning of EDM/CNC machines to ensure optimal performance. Report any mechanical issues or malfunctions to maintenance staff.
- Maintain accurate records of machine setup, operation, and any issues encountered during the machining process.
- Follow all safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhere to safety regulations.
- Work closely with engineers and other team members to resolve any production issues and improve processes.
- Operate or tend automatic or multi-purpose machines to produce metal parts and metal products
- Fit and assemble components using hand and power tools (waterjet only)
- Clean, polish, file or otherwise finish products (waterjet only)
- Check products for quality and other specifications
- May clean and lubricate machinery.
- Operate waterjet cutting machines to cut and shape materials according to technical drawings and specifications.
- Set up waterjet machines, including loading materials, aligning workpieces, and configuring machine settings. Input and adjust cutting parameters as needed.
- Follow and execute cutting programs, making adjustments to parameters such as pressure, speed, and path as necessary to achieve desired results.
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of waterjet machines, including checking and replacing nozzles, filters, and other components. Report any mechanical issues or malfunctions.
- Diagnose and resolve issues related to machine performance, cutting quality, or material handling. Adjust settings and make repairs as needed.
- Maintain accurate records of machine setup, cutting operations, and any issues encountered during the process. Document material usage and production counts.

Job Specifications
- Some secondary school education is required.
- College or other courses in machining may be required.
- Senior positions in this unit group, such as set-up operator, require experience as a machine operator.
- Strong knowledge of codes/machines & tools
- Previous experience operating CNC/EDM machines or in a similar manufacturing role is preferred.
- Basic understanding of CNC/EDM machine operation and setup.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in cutting and shaping materials.
- Basic numerical skills
- Strong computer skills
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Proficiency in using measurement tools and equipment.
- Troubleshoot basic machine issues
Pay: $22.00 per hour
