Friends of Ruby is dedicated to supporting the well-being of 2SLGBTQIA+ youth aged 16-29 through mental health services, social programs, and housing. We operate a Youth Drop-In Centre, offering barrier-free counselling, case management, and community programming; and a Transitional Home, providing emergency and long-term housing with life-skills support.

The Senior Development Officer, Major Gifts leads major gift fundraising by cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding relationships with current and prospective donors to secure significant philanthropic investments. The role supports Friends of Ruby’s fundraising goals by expanding the donor pipeline, collaborating across teams, and creating tailored donor engagement strategies that inspire long-term support for 2SLGBTQIA+ youth.
About the Role
As a Senior Development Officer, Major Gifts, you will be responsible for:
- Developing and executing major gift fundraising strategies to achieve revenue targets and secure 5- and 6-figure gifts.
- Managing and growing a portfolio of major donors and prospects through strategic cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
- Identifying and qualifying new donor prospects to expand the major gifts pipeline and support future transformational giving.
- Creating personalized donor engagement plans that align donor interests with Friends of Ruby’s mission and priorities.
- Maintaining accurate donor records, prospect research, and fundraising data to support relationship management and informed decision-making.
- Collaborating with internal teams, leadership, board members, and community partners to strengthen donor relationships and advance fundraising goals.
Your Competencies
- Adaptability & Strategic Agility: Maximizes fundraising opportunities by adapting effectively to changing priorities, recognizing and leveraging opportunities for donor engagement, navigating diverse environments with confidence, and strategically managing competing responsibilities to achieve fundraising goals and strengthen donor relationships.
- Donor Stewardship & Relationship Management: Builds strategic and lasting donor relationships by understanding donor motivations, interests, and philanthropic goals, cultivating trust, creating meaningful engagement opportunities, and delivering personalized stewardship and solicitation strategies.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration & Communication: Ensures aligned and effective fundraising efforts by working closely with Marketing, Finance, and program teams to integrate donor strategies with organizational messaging and goals.
- Ensuring Service Quality and Compliance: Enhances donor experience and ensures program integrity by implementing quality assurance processes, conducting audits, developing stewardship frameworks, and coordinating recognition opportunities in compliance with best practices.
- Integrating Technical or Policy Knowledge into Planning and Support: Improves program planning and informs strategic decisions by independently applying fundraising expertise, analyzing trends, and integrating technical or policy knowledge to solve problems and optimize donor strategies.
Required Credentials
- Proven track record in donor stewardship and major gifts
- Post-secondary education in Fundraising Management, Nonprofit Management, Philanthropy or equivalent experience
- Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) designation is considered an asset.
- Working Knowledge of Microsoft Office, and CRM programs such as DonorPerfect

What We Need
- Must be legally authorized to work in Canada

- Must be willing to work onsite hybrid in downtown Toronto.
- Must have a flexible schedule to accommodate occasional evenings, weekends.
- Ability to travel to other community-based settings as needed.
