GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION
The Painter at Smart Modular Canada is responsible for preparing, painting, and finishing modular units and components to meet company quality standards and project specifications. This role supports production by ensuring all surfaces are properly treated, coated, and finished in a safe and efficient manner.
The Painter works closely with production teams to meet timelines while maintaining high standards of workmanship in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1 Surface Preparation
- Prepare surfaces for painting by cleaning, sanding, patching, and priming
- Fill cracks, holes, and joints using appropriate materials (e.g., putty, drywall compound)
- Protect surrounding areas using masking, drop sheets, and tape
2 Painting & Finishing
- Apply paint, stains, and coatings using brushes, rollers, or spray equipment
- Ensure even coverage, proper thickness, and high-quality finish
- Mix and match paints to required colours and specifications
- Apply specialty coatings as required (e.g., fire-retardant, weather-resistant finishes)
3 Quality Control
- Inspect finished work to ensure it meets company and client standards
- Identify and correct defects such as drips, uneven coverage, or missed areas
- Maintain consistency across multiple modular units
4 Health & Safety
- Follow all workplace health and safety policies and procedures
- Properly use personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Handle and store paints, solvents, and chemicals safely
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
5 Collaboration & Productivity
- Work with carpenters, drywallers, and other trades to meet production timelines
- Communicate material needs and report issues to supervisors
- Meet daily/weekly production targets
· And other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE JOB
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Experience:
· 2+ years of painting experience in construction, manufacturing, or a related field
- Experience in modular construction or production environments is an asset
- Experience with spray equipment is preferred

- Knowledge of painting techniques, tools, and materials
- Attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
- Ability to work efficiently in a team environment
- Good time management and ability to meet deadlines
- Physical ability to stand for long periods, lift materials, and perform repetitive tasks
· Competent under the Ontario Health and Safety Act.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
· Ability to work on ladders or scaffolding as required.
Pay: $25.00-$35.00 per hour
