Ophthalmic Technician

We’re seeking a full-time, career-minded Ophthalmic Technician who values long-term stability, exceptional patient care, and being part of a collaborative clinical team. You’ll play a vital role in supporting ophthalmologists and optometrists by performing diagnostic testing, gathering clinical information, assisting with procedures, and ensuring patients receive a professional, respectful, and compassionate experience throughout their visit.

What We Offer:

- Stable weekday hours: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM, with an expectation for flexibility to open and close the clinic on rotation with your team, and occasional weekend and overtime work as required

Qualifications:
- Previous experience in ophthalmology, optometry, healthcare, or a medical clinic setting is a significant asset, but not required
- Ophthalmic Technician certification or Medical Office Assistant certification is an asset
- Bachelor's degree strongly preferred, especially in science and healthcare
- Strong computer skills and familiarity with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) an asset
- Eligible to work in Canada full-time year-round
- Willingness to learn, study, and continuously develop technical and clinical skills

Your Main Duties Would Be:
Patient Workups: Preparing patients for examination by obtaining medical and ocular histories, documenting medications, allergies, and relevant health information, performing visual acuity assessments, and accurately updating patient records.
Diagnostic Testing: Performing ophthalmic diagnostic tests including but not limited to visual fields, OCT imaging, A-scans, iTrace, auto-refraction, tonometry, pachymetry, refraction, IOP checks, and other testing as required by clinic protocols and physician direction.
Clinical Support: Assisting ophthalmologists and optometrists with patient evaluations, treatment planning, and patient flow to ensure an efficient and positive patient experience.
Procedures and Laser Clinics: Setting up and assisting with laser procedures and other in-clinic treatments, ensuring equipment, instruments, and supplies are properly prepared and available.
Surgical Support: Working up patients and preparing them for upcoming surgeries, collecting required measurements and documentation, and assisting with pre-operative and post-operative care processes as assigned.
Equipment and Instrument Care: Cleaning, preparing, organizing, and maintaining ophthalmic instruments and diagnostic equipment, including scheduled calibration and quality control procedures.
Inventory Management: Conducting regular inventory checks, monitoring clinical supplies, and assisting with ordering and stock management as assigned.
Clinic Maintenance: Setting up examination and treatment rooms each morning, maintaining testing and clinical areas throughout the day, and ensuring rooms remain clean, organized, stocked, and ready for patient care.
Professional Development: Participating in training and educational sessions provided or recommended by the clinic to continuously develop ophthalmic knowledge and technical skills.
General Duties: Performing any tasks within the scope of assisting the ophthalmologist or optometrist in the evaluation and management of patients and maintaining an efficient, professional, and welcoming clinical environment. Performing other duties within the clinic as assigned from time to time.
