WASO is hiring! We are looking for people that are committed to providing high quality supports to adults diagnosed with a developmental disability. WASO is a multi-faceted agency that provides a diverse range of supports to individuals that choose to receive service from one of our programs.
Direct Support Staff are responsible for:
· Working closely with the Program Manager to plan and execute tasks, activities and programs on site and in the community.
· Performing all tasks necessary to ensure the safety and wellbeing of each person we support (including administering medication, personal care supports and other tasks as required)
· Encouraging individuals to make independent choices as required
· Providing transportation to and from the site and for activities/events in the community
· Making a difference in the lives of the people we support by creating positive working relationships
· Communicating effectively with colleagues, the people WASO supports and their support networks.
· Providing training in a variety of areas, including life skills, task performance
· Encouraging person centered choices and involvement in the community
· Providing and facilitating opportunities for volunteering
· Recreational activities
Requirements:
· A minimum of two years experience providing supports to individuals (ideally in a day service environment)
· A valid class 5F driver’s license
· Acceptable Criminal record, Adult Abuse and Child Abuse Registry checks
· Access to a vehicle
· Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position (siting, standing, walking, listing, 50 pounds)
· Ability to provide personal care to individuals with limited mobility (including using a wheelchair)
