The Scale House Shipper Receiver will serve as the first point of contact for customers and haulers delivering waste to and from the Toronto facility; first point of contact for visitors; initial inspection of loads, and ensure the safety of the haulers, visitors, and other employees through observation of safety rules and regulations. The position is also responsible for collecting, completing, data entry, assuring accuracy, and filing of the appropriate paperwork.
Key Accountabilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty with accuracy and attention to detail,
Greets customers, directs haulers and other traffic, and answers questions accordingly.
Ensures that incoming material is manifested, safe, and does not contain prohibited material.
Obtains information regarding material entering the facility to properly bill the customer and track the total amount and type of waste entering the facility.
Provides a scale ticket to the customer, assures accuracy and signs the waste manifest, and documents the waste entering and leaving the facility with attention to detail,
Prints BOL’s, generates and prints manifest, schedules, labels and associated paperwork for GFL drivers,
Completes all administrative tasks including data entry, regular filing, and required reports,
Identifies and reports problems; gathers needed information to develop solutions,
Documents customer and/or supplier problems to management and responds promptly to customer needs,
Ensures that customers and employees conduct all business in a safe manner and wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE),
Communicates with staff via 2-way radio for proper dispatch,
Provides general housekeeping of the Shipping & Receiving office and reception area,
Keeps immediate supervisor and Operations Manager fully informed of all problems or matters requiring his/her attention,
Attends all training and meetings as directed,
Works overtime as needed,
Works weekends and holidays as needed,
Provides coverage for full time Shipper/Receiver during vacation/absences,
Approaches all encounters with employees, customers, and vendors in a friendly,
service-oriented manner.
Experience, Qualifications & Education
Analytical thinker who can multi-task and is extremely organized with a strong attention to
detail,
Clear communicator and team player,
Possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills,
Proficient with and knowledge of office equipment including but not limited to, computer,
phone, fax machine, copier, Google Office suite software including Docs, Sheets, Gmail,
Microsoft Access, and OMS,
Familiar with environmental regulations (CEPA, Ontario Reg. 347/558, TDG, etc.) as well
as internal and external industry specifications that support the business as an asset,
Ability to adjust to rapidly shifting priorities in a fast pace work environment and to work
with minimal supervision,
Effective organizational and interpersonal skills,
Accustomed to working within a unionized environment,
Valid G license and acceptable driver’s abstract,
TDG & Reg.347 experience is preferred.
