Compensation & Benefits:
The pay for this role is $50,000 plus bonus, comprehensive benefits, retirement savings plan, paid vacation, and other perks and opportunities.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Quality Manager, this position is responsible for ensuring the production process meets superior food safety systems (SQF and HACCP) and quality standards, from the receipt of raw materials through production and shipment of finished products.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare samples, media, and buffers used for daily analysis.
- Perform chemical, microbiological, and organoleptic testing of raw ingredients, work-in-progress, and finished products, and assess/report results to ensure compliance with company standards and government regulations.
- Generate test results with a high level of accuracy and reliability.
- Conduct product testing and complete environmental monitoring.
- Conduct COA, raw material, finished product, and label verification.
- Understand, operate, and calibrate all laboratory equipment (such as scales, thermometers, analyzers, etc.) in accordance with standard operating procedures.
- Produce reports for internal and external customers.
- Enter data into computer systems for product release and record maintenance purposes.
- Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure cleanliness within the laboratory.
- Work closely with production staff on sanitation, hygiene, product quality, GMPs, and related training requirements.
- Monitor and maintain Quality, Food Safety, and SQF systems.
- Has full authority to stop food production if unsafe conditions are encountered or product quality may be compromised.
- Report issues or barriers to the Quality Manager promptly.
- Complete tasks in a timely manner.
- Maintain inventory and order necessary laboratory supplies.
- Attend required training and development programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Management.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in the food industry.
- Bachelor of Science degree or diploma in Microbiology, Food Science, or a related field.
- Knowledge of microbiological procedures and autoclaving techniques.
- Knowledge of HACCP, GMPs, allergens, and food security.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal/written communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Willing and able to work overtime and weekends when required.
Working Environment
General office and laboratory conditions, with frequent periods spent in a manufacturing facility. Regular exposure to noise and chemical substances. Occasional exposure to hazardous equipment (autoclaves), biohazardous bacteria, and odors.
Physical Demands
- Lifting materials up to 25 kg.
- Standing for extended periods of time.
- Occasional stair climbing.
- Moderate amounts of sitting and walking.
