The St. Michael's Hospital Academic Family Health Team is looking for a full time Release of Information Specialist to provide support to the Department of Family and Community Medicine. Reporting directly to the Clinical Manager, the Release of Information Specialists will be responsible for managing all incoming requests for disclosure of personal health information.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Process all requests related to Access and/or Disclosure of Personal Health Information(PHI) according to established departmental procedures and applicable provincial statutes and legislation
- Prepare invoices and monitor remittance of fees
- Log all activity in the Release of Information application
- Act as a resource for internal/external inquires regarding Access/Disclosure of Personal Health Information (PHI)
- Prepare Release of Information workload statistics on a monthly basis
- Manage request to ensure compliance with legislative turn around times as per the Information Privacy Commissioner (IPC)
- Collaborate, as required, with Risk Management, Patient Affairs and physician staff
- Supervise patients who are reviewing their records
- Other duties as assigned
Graduate of an accredited Health Information Management Program is required QUALIFICATIONS:
- Graduate of an accredited Health Information Management Program is required
- Certification with the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA). Must be a member in good standing.
- Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
- Excellent customer service, conflict resolution and interpersonal skills
- Ability to show good judgement
- Working knowledge of provincial regulations related to the access/disclosure of Personal Health Information (PHIPA, Public Hosptial's Act, etc.,)
- Excellent organization and time management skills
- Proficiency and knowledge of computer applications (Word and Excel), and Heatlh Care specific applications
- Ability to work independently, prioritize workload, meet deadlines and work effectively under pressure
- Experience with access/disclosure of Personal Health Information (PHI)
- Must have an excellent attendance record
