Tammy Boyko and Carlan Wilbon with Aplin are currently seeking an experienced Commercial Claims Adjuster for an immediate 12 month term with a well-established organization. Responsibilities
- Manage the investigation of complex and high-value claims by verifying coverage, assessing scope, negotiating settlements and recoveries, and completing all required reporting and documentation in accordance with established company procedures.
- Perform on-site and remote claim investigations by communicating with policyholders, insurers, witnesses, legal representatives, medical professionals, contractors, and other relevant parties.
- Protect and preserve loss sites and gather physical and documentary evidence needed to support claim investigations.
- Review and interpret insurance policy language, including applicable limitations and exclusions, to support accurate coverage determinations.
- Identify, obtain, and evaluate the documentation required to process claims in compliance with company standards and applicable federal, provincial, and municipal regulations.
- Process and authorize claim payments accurately and efficiently while ensuring adherence to legislative and regulatory requirements.
- Assess claim information and contribute to decisions regarding reserve recommendations, settlement strategies, recoveries, negotiations, and claim denials where appropriate.
- Collaborate with internal business units, including Underwriting, to support organizational objectives by communicating potential exposures, hazards, and emerging risks.
- Follow established operating procedures, regulatory requirements, and internal risk management and compliance standards to ensure consistent claims handling practices.
- Provide guidance, coaching, and day-to-day support to junior claims professionals and administrative team members.
- Contribute to the design, enhancement, and delivery of training initiatives for claims staff.
- Support the ongoing development of team members by sharing technical knowledge and providing expertise on claims products, systems, procedures, and best practices.
Qualifications
- At least five years of experience managing commercial property and liability claims.
- Completion of, or active progress toward, a Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) or Canadian Risk Management (CRM) designation.
- Post-secondary education in business or a related field is considered an asset.
- Demonstrated analytical thinking, sound judgment, effective decision-making, and strong organizational abilities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications and the Windows operating environment.
- Ability to effectively balance thorough claim investigations with a high standard of customer service.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally.
- Possession of a valid driver's licence and a clean driving record.
- Self-directed, collaborative, and dependable, with a positive, professional approach to work.
